I must admit being a little passionate about weissenbron style lap slide guitars.
I am considering building a Baritone Weissenborn copy in the future.
Dose anyone out there have a plan or would share measurements like scale length, lower bout, upper bout, waist, total length, thickness and soubd hole size with me?
I have seen a guitar with a 27" scale used with tunings in B and a big fella with a 30" scale tuned down to A.
Any opinions greatly received.
Cheers

Hi Alan, It will probably be pretty darn tough to get your hands on actual plans or even measurements of a pretty rare guitar like that. Looking at your last guitar you obviously are amazingly talented and I bet once you get your scale length decided upon you'd be able to make a real gem by tweaking the plan you already have. I have no doubt using your intuition and topnotch craftsmanship you'll be thrilled.
Then of course it will inspire the next one..."what if I made the body deeper?" , "what if I....." |

Neil at Celtic Cross makes the 30" scale Weissenborn style. I bet he would be willing to steer you in the right direction. Rance at LazyRiver makes 27" and 30" scales. You might try him as well.
I'm having Daniel Brauchli build me a 27" scale based on his unique design. He's adapting a bigger body style from an 8 string he's designing.
Many builders are very benevolent and willing to help the art and craft along. |
