This is the "INSTRUCTION COURSE FOR STEEL GUITAR" available at Scotty's. Also, what songs are covered, and what is the balance between excerises and songs?

Thanks much,
John

Many more songs than excercises. Covers the basic tunings (E13, B11, C6) including their historical root tunings (A, C#m, I don't remember about open E). Finishes off with C6/A7. If I remember right, I went through it on a 6 string guitar and got along better than just ok. I remember that there were no more than one or two tunes that required 8 strings. And that the 8 string sections could be worked around. I found it to be an excellent book. I highly recommend it.

JERRY BYRD was without compromise, the top man!

His music speaks for itself......

Why you would have any doubts or raise any questions about his instructional course......amazes me.

You couldn't go wrong with any one of his courses.

Oh, yeah. What songs are covered? Sweet Lei lehua, Steelin' the Blues, Sand, How D'ya do?, Blue Hawaiian Moonlight.

I'm not sure of the others. Maybe someone will help me out here. But perhaps...

Hanalei Moon, Beautiful Kauai......lots of Hawaiian stuff. At least one more of his own country compositions.

Ray, I certainly wasn't doubting the material - in fact, it sounds too good to be true Smile. I like the fact that the material goes through the "evolution" of tunings. I have a 7-string National. I was worried that the materil might be geared primarily towards 8 strings (but it sounds like the top 6 are the "money" strings).

As far as the songs, I've picked up some instructional material where the songs were definitely NOT what I wanted to learn. The song lists Don and Edward posted sound great.

Now, to save up that $117...

An interesting aside:

I bought the very first edition (red cover) of Jerry's method...no CD or tape included...many years ago. I found it to be full of useful information. However, I began to notice a number of errors which disturbed me, so I wrote to Jerry and asked what had happened ? He agreed and was obviously very upset because the printer screwed up so many pages. Jerry eventually sent me about 20 replacement pages which I never inserted in the book, but still have them.

The book I got from Scotty has Cd's in it. It was so messed up that I can hardly use it. There are pages out of place, missing etc. I have spent more time trying to figure out how to put it together than learning in it.

When I talked to Jr. he said that is the way it is...
I must say that I was very disappointed. The book itself is priceless, the way it is put together- I think a six year old could do a better job.

Gary, before I blow a fuse, are you saying that you bought the JB course from Scotty (the only legit distributer) and was sent a product that was essentially a mess and got merely a blow off answer from him per your concerns?

I hope I'm misreading you, as this sounds..., less than good.
