Jim....The guitar you have was originally owned by Albert Talley who is now president of the Texas steel guitar association and a great player.
Incidentally....your guitar is listed on the very first page of MSA production records. |

Hey Reece! I'd guess that one to be a real oldie, as MSA's go. Probably made in...1966?

Donny....Yep that's an oldie. I too would guess it to be a late 65 or 66.
Oddly enough, Junior Knight called me yesterday to ask if the serial number of an even older MSA he had just acquired might be my old MSA, and sure nuff...he's got it.
He has the one I used to recorded my very first album called "modern steel guitar". When he completes the restoration he's bringing it to my home so we can have a reunion. What a great friend..... |

This thread poses the question as to who now owns an MSA older than serial number 10023 which Junior now owns. According to records, theres only 22 older MSA's. |

Junior....I would say your guitar is also a mid to late 65 or early 66. Back in those days we did not enter completion dates into production records. |

Howdy from Kansas Reece,
I am not at home so I do not have access to my records but it seems to me that the first MSA I bought had a SN of 1004 or maybe 10004. If that number guitar was sent to Don Edwards in Denver I would say that is the one I bought in 1968.

Dave you can,t believe how this guitar still sound,s. I am working on C6th neck but E9th has Emmon,s copedant,s and if it wasn,t so heavey i would play it to-night.If i had kept it in 1975 it would be wore out by now,i think==Jim Harper |

Hey Jim,thanks for the e-mail.That is a beautiful MSA,My old 73 Classic is still going strong,I'm sure it will wear me out before I wear it out,Just my opinion, but I think they were one of the most solid guitars ever built,Guess that's the reason they are so dog gone heavy. But I love them.DYKBC. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer.
