My new Rosewood Rains, D-10, 9-8, arrived Wednesday afternoon, and for the first few hours I sat just totally mesmerized at the over all awesome/greatness of this instrument. Sustain, playability, workmanship, responsiveness, pedal/knee lever action, extremely smooth and positive, not to mention the beauty went way my beyond imagination. The highs, mid's, bottom range, separation of the notes crystal clear! The unbelieveable tone of this guitar, far, far exceeded my wildest expectations, it is as though you can't get enough of it! The fit of the guitar feels like an extension of yourself, as though physical measurements were taken to ensure a perfect fit, and that it does for me. It to date, totally exceeds any all/pull guitars I have ever owned, and I have had the blessing of having played some really "killer guitars", but nothing comes remotely close in my opinion to this one! All you need is a bar, picks, volume pedal and amp/reverb. Forget the gadgets and "enhancers", you don't need them, this Rains has it all. For me the "effects" would mask the incredible tone these guitars have. This makes my second one and if asked "which one do you like best"? The answer would be, if you have two children which do you love the most? Another amazing feature is, there was no tone adjustment needed on the amp, plug it in and play. As I've said before for me "the search is over"! Thanks to Master Builder Gary Carpenter for a spectacular master piece of a pedal steel guitar. He has a lifelong customer here as long as he is in the business.
There are numerous great guitars out there, but a Rains fits me the best! Gary Carpenter, (a true gentlemen) and Rains will definitely with stand the test and hold its own and lastly, a Rains is 100% AMERICAN MADE according to Gary - that says it all for me!

| Congrats John, i too love my Rains i've had for about 3 years now and it is definatly a keeper. It's every thing you just mentioned. Show us some pictures of the beuty. |

| John, you expressed so eloquently the sentiments I have experienced with Gary's guitar. I have owned mine for 2 years and sense the same experience you stated every time I play it. And....what accolades can you add about Gary that any other Rains owner hasn't already said?! |

Is it actual rosewood (as opposed to maple) or mica with a rosewood pattern?
It seems to me that both rosewood and mahogany would both be excellent woods for building steels.

John, you are right on the money. My Rains surpases all the other steels that I have owned and played. It is the most comfortable playing steel's I have sat behind. I have the 705 pickup and it is the cleanest pickup I have ever used. It is hot all the way up the neck.
Gary has fined tuned the Rains over the past few years and has created a sure winner in my book. The workmanship is excellent. |

Rosewood mica Mike. In fact that was probably the last of it. I had asked Gary to put some back as I thought I would be able to buy the very guitar that John had built but the gigs dried up and so did my wallet.

Jim, you are right from what I have been told there is no more of this particular Rosewood. This guitar is the most awesome I have ever had, period! The tone is astounding, sustain out the wahzoo, and is butter smooth. I can't wait to get in the studio with it! I am 100% totally satisfied, with everything about this guitar! If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing, I would go with a Rains. Just my opinion. It lacks nothing, workmanship, quality, mechanics and did I say how smooth it played and how great it sounds!

John, do you ever have contact with Jim Clark? I call him now and then since his wife passed just to check on him. He's a really great guy and built some really fine guitars.

Indeed I do see and talk with Jim Clark. As a matter of fact, yesterday at our monthly meeting here in Owasso, he was there with one of his guitars. JD Walters was also there playing his Clark. Jim is doing as good as can be expected after having lost Miss Barbara a few months ago. Don't be surprised if you hear of a new Clark on the horizon! There is one just about ready for its debut. He has got the "itch" back to build a few and this is good for him. He made me some knee levers for a single neck guitar I use once in a while, they replaced those cheesy pot metal things and look as though they came from the factory. He's still got it that masters touch of excellence.
