To co-incide with their current European tour, Albert Lee and Hogan's Heroes have released a new CD - "Like This". Aside from the superlative guitar playing of Albert Lee, the CD features the ever tasteful steel guitar of forumite, and ISGC regular, Gerry Hogan. It is a great album, and if you can get your hands on a copy well worth it.

I had the priveledge of working with Albert and Jerry in 1969 on a 30 day European Tour for RCA Victor Records. I was playing guitar for Skeeter Davis. The tour consisted of Skeeter, Connie Smith, Bobby Bare, Nat Stuckey, and George Hamilton IV. The Hillsiders were also on the tour. Albert and Jerry were playing with the Country Fever Band. It was a great experience and Albert and I stay in touch. I have also had some email exchange with Jerry. What a great bunch of guys. Smile

The guys in the band are always kind enough to send me a copy of each new CD (I was a founder-member many years ago) and there's always a high level of musicianship on every release.

This latest one, however, has set a new standard! I like the production very much and I feel that it's in this area that they've really improved. There's a lot of fresh material here, and a new energy about the band.

Super stuff, which makes it all the more unfortunate that, as you may have heard, Albert has had to cut the current tour short due to his accident in Paris this week.

Go to their web-site and treat yourself to this latest CD!

Thank you for posting this, Mike and for your kind comments. Similar grateful thanks to Roger, though I feel some clarification is in order.

Albert tripped over in Paris last Tuesday lunchtime and fell on his right arm, breaking the humerus in two places (I have taken this medical terminology from his explanation on our website). The arm is strapped up tightly and will remain like that for 6 weeks. His hand is free of bandages and so he can exercise his fingers.

The tour is currently being rescheduled. Dates after 19 May are likely to be unaffected, but please look at www.albertleeand hogansheroes.com for full details of dates.

Roger, you'll be interested to know that Air Chief Marshall Bell came to the gig we played in Nancy, France last Sunday, he seemed in good spirits and looked very well.

BTW: I look forward to seeing you over here later this year. Very Happy

Gerry

Hi, Gerry - I'm glad to hear that the General will be back in action before too long. Matt Dawson told me about ACM Bell springing a surprise inspection recently - you chaps wandering about Europe is tantamount to a NATO gathering, isn't it?

(For those Forumites who don't know, the various constituent parts of Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes have - for the sake of clarity while at the front-line - have conferred military ranks upon each other. The luckless Brian Hodgson - bass-player - who in an unguarded moment confessed to having written the British Eurovision Song Contest entry, found himself demoted to Aircraftsman Second-Class as a consequence....)

I'm glad to get a chance to bump this thread to the top - I can't recommend this new CD highly enough!!!

Thanks for putting up the website address correctly, Olli! Embarassed Also, having taken more time to read all the postings Embarassed , I see that my friend Erl Erb has added a comment. It's good of you to spend the time, Erl! Very Happy I shall never forget the RCA tour of November 1969! Nils Tuxen and I were only speaking about it at a gig in Hamburg two weeks ago. He came to see the RCA show in Copenhagen all those years ago and he, Ronnie Bennett and I spent most of the night chatting about pedal steel guitars. Nils told me that he bought an Emmons D10 from Buddy in LA a few months afterwards!

Thanks to Air Commodore Rettig for his additional, ever articulate prose. Very Happy

Dear Gerry

Thanks for reminding me of the lofty heights to which I once rose.

Here in the USA it's of little consequence, although I still occasionally append it to my signature. Unlike "Colonel" Tom Parker, though, it's never got me a better seat in any of the restaurants that I can afford to eat in.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare pac-a-seat that I could use on my impending tour of the Old Country, would you...? I'm still pondering the best way of getting my Emmons safely across the Pond, never mind all the other impedimenta we've come to rely upon in order to play a tune or two ....

Best wishes to you, Barbara and the family, and all the 'chaps', be they 'commissioned' or otherwise, especially our fallen comrade!

Roger,

I do have a spare pak-a-seat which you may use when you come over. Just let me know when you need it. Barbara sends her love and please give ours to Susie, too. Smile
