How do I record sound from myspace page
using Audacity?
I thought it would pickup anything coming
thru the soundcard?

My problem is my dropdown menu is grayed
out?
I uninstalled Audacity and downloaded
it again, same problem.

Hey Rick,

I don't believe you can do it.

What I have done is right click on the song and "Save Target As" to the hardrive and then Import it to Audacity from there which works fine.

Hope that helps you.

If you have the "System Mixer" or "What you hear" option select that to record.

Some (Dell) systems with integrated audio (on the motherboard audio) do not have the capability to record audio from the internet. For whatever reason, Dell does not include that feature in their OEM implementation. Using non-Dell drivers will either not work or not fix the problem.

You can connect an audio cable from your computer's Audio Out to it's Line IN.

At least that works on my Mac Powerbook, with Audacity.

Audio Out is sometimes labeled "Headphones".

It is possible to record in Audacity from another site, but you have to set the appropriate source. On my Audacity, I change the selector to Stereo Mix, instead of Line-in at the top right menu item. Hope that works. Regards, Rich.

The Audio out/Line In jumper does not work on everything we've tried including Duplex SoundBlaster Audigy sound cards. Years ago it did work (back in the DOS days) but redesigns on sound cards have removed that capability (new improved).

After looking at some internet
message boards on Audacity.
It appears that the new Dell Computer
I bought will not allow the Audacity
program to record what you hear.
Several other people with new computers
have the same problem.

The solution, I still have my older
Dell computer, it will support the
record from "play what you hear".
