I am having some trouble tuning one of the pedal raises on my steel. The nylon nut bottoms out and the note is just flat of where it needs to be. I repositioned the rod to shorten it thinking that I was on the pedal stop and just needed a bit more pull. This didn't make any difference at all.
I'm not sure what is happening and could use some advice. The guitar is all original older mechanics w/ Dbl raise Dbl lower changer.
(it is my C pedal - the B - C# raise is fine, but the E - F# raise is flat)

Thanks in advance.

Tim.
First check the changer to be sure that theres no broken string ends binding up. Then maybe adjust your c pedal stop for a little more travel then re-tune the pedal.

After trying Glenn's suggestions, if there is still a problem:

Flip the guitar over and look at the 4th string changer finger while working the 3rd pedal. Does the lower portion of the finger move forward at the end of the raise? If so, your finger may be lowering and raising at the same time?......usually the result of a lax return spring.

Also, back off the tuner hex nut until you are sure there is no pre-load on the changer finger (there should be a touch of slackness when the pedal is disengaged). If the hex nut is too tight, it can restrict the available changer finger excursion to make the whole step raise.

Thank you, gentlemen. I will try your suggestions tonight.

I hope that it is not the pedal stop. I would like to reduce the travel instead of increasing it!
