Dang -- alternate thumb bass with index/middle fingers playing syncopated melody while playing in tune and with feeling and vibrato is HARD! Oh, and careful not to hit adjacent strings with the bar (or drop the bar)...

I got my Bob Brozman Lap Style Blues Guitar DVD's yesterday, and man... he makes it look easy. I guess that's what you want, right?

One seemingly obvious thing though that I got was thinking about that 'squeeze' with thumb and whichever finger you're using. Remembering to do that has suddenly let me finally move beyond a point where I was really having trouble getting things to work right.

There's exercise of having thumb play the alternate bass part quarter notes, while having the index/middle play eight notes on the top string really opened things up. Thinking of that squeeze made all the differnce, at least for me.

Whoo-hoooo! Very Happy

If you want to learn to play lap steel blues with self-accompaniment, I highly recommend these DVD's.
