First I'd like to say what an overwhelming experience the was for a first timer at the show. The players and band were outstanding. There were no disappointments with any of the great players we heard.
We got there Thurs. afternoon and left at noon today (Sunday). If I heard nothing but Ronnie Miller and The Charley Pride Band it would have been worth it to be there. Ronnie is as close as they come to being the next John Hughey both in his playing and his friendly and personable attitude. When they played the Conway medley I got realy choked up. Their "Look at Us" was amazing. I wish I had a recording of their performance. Thank you Ronnie and band for your dedication to doing things right.
Johnny Bush has always been a Hero to me and I think he just gets better every time I hear him.
Mike Auldridge, the Jackson boys & Dawn, Clyde Wilcox, Thom Beeman & Mac, The Rollins family my old buddy Mike Siler, all the best at what they do.
I could go on about all the fine music we heard; Russ, Doug, Randy, Larry, Austin, Jimbeau my old friend Herbie and everyone else who played. This is already the longest post I ever submitted so I'll just say thanks to Albert & Debbie and all in the TSGA for giving us first timers something to remember fondly.
I know I left a lot of people out but maybe when I wake up tomorrow I'll be able to think a little better.
Thanks again everyone. |

I too completely enjoyed Ronnie Miller and Plainsmen. It was impossible to keep the lump out of my throat during his tribute to John Hughey. I have never heard anyone do it better or come closer to the real thing. Ronnie hope to see you in Denver this year.

I agree that Ronnie had a great set ,,,the high-light of the show? Maybe? Janet Lynn & another girl had a fine little dance when Doug played,,,hard to decide...But, seriously, Ronnie's playing was right on , good tone too. The players were the same as always, just great ! Vocals were as good as any major star could do,,,and what more could anyone want in Reggies fiddle playing? JF |

Noooo, THANK YOU Ronnie, for letting me be a part of this experience. Ronnie is a great player and a wonderful person. When I play alongside Ronnie, I feel like everything he plays should be recorded. That is the same thing Bobby Wayne (Merle's Stranger)told me about him.
I'll give you a little background on Ronnie's selection of "Stealin' Corn". Shortly after I did the Roy Nichols guitar instructional video in 2003, Ronnie heard "Stealin' Corn" on it and he remembered being fond of that illusive Strangers instrumental from back in 1970. He said "let's work that up and play it at the steel guitar show". My video has both parts, so the steel part was transcribed on guitar. Ronnie took it and converted it back to a steel part. Believe me, that part does not fall naturally into a steel guitar tuning and setup. I was amazed how he was able to get around the neck and make that part work so well. We first played "Stealin' Corn" at the 2006 TSGA show. We got together at Pride's studio earlier in the week to rehearse. Man, did Ronnie ever nail the steel part. It was so cool to actually play that song for the first time with a steel player in harmony. All the Pridesmen just fell into it. It was a real highlight for me, and to be able to do it again this year was awesome. Thanks Ronnie, for letting me be a part of this. _________________ Terry Downs |

Ronnie Miller is for real. Period. His playing is always right on, and you won't find a nicer feller anywhere. I'm proud to call him friend, and always look forward to getting to work a gig with him.
...........Did you know he sings some great harmony also?
I was sure glad I got to go to the steel show this year. Usually, I am picking somewhere and have to miss it. I was blown completely away with Ronnies set, and I was (I thought) PREPARED for it, because I work with Billy Martin every Tuesday night when that other guy, that Charley Pride guy don't steal him, Ronnie Miller, Regie Rueffer and the rest of the "PRIDESMEN" and take off somewhere to do a gig in front of Thousands of fans. (I'm very proud that Charley still Packs 'em in everywhere he plays)
Billy Martin and I have worked together on and off for 35 years, and he plays and sings soooo good I'm amazed he hasn't signed with some major label and had a string of hits a mile long. (Billy Martins finger prints are on the moon from when he hung it up in the sky) He (on Bass)and I (Guitar) along with Dale Morris Jr.on Fiddle Danny Adams on Drums, and our Steel player BUDDIE HRABAL have a Real Country Band called "COUNTRY NIGHT LIVE", and play every Tuesday night at The Finish Line in West Fort Worth Tx. and when Buddie needs a sub he calls Ronnie Miller, so I've heard him and Billy Martin do "Look At Us" before at The Finish Line, and it is OUTSTANDING. I sure won't turn a gig down, but I'm looking forward to the next TSGA!
Also, It was great to see some great friends again I hadn't seen in a while: Duane and Cyndy Brown from Reno (Sparks) NV. Baxter Vaughan, Johnny Cox, and his steel drivin' wife Joan, Ron Stafford, Gary Carpenter and all the "Rains' Steel People, Mark Abbott,(actually I did a couple gigs with him in the past month or so) Albert Talley, Jim Smith, Frank Baron, Gene Brown, Mike Siler, Randy Corner, Curtis Potter, Danny Nacarato, and a whole bunch more, and had fine visits with a bunch of new friends. All in All it was one of the best times I've ever had. Sure didn't get much sleep tho. |
