A friend of mine with a newer model Excel JB Frypan ... wanted a "type of pickup" ... that is no longer available ...

He purchased a Chicago Steel pup from Jason instead ... and because of a couple "non-pup" related issues ... sent it to me ... along with the original Excel pup.

Because the "gap" on the fauxs was quite tall ... I saw an opportunity to go for some Hybrid Vigor ... to borrow a biological term ...

"Backing" any permanent magnet with steel ... increases the flux density at the opposite pole ... so this configuration ... bumped up an already powerful pickup.

It's flyin' back to Hawaii today ... so we'll see how the owner likes it ...

The "retrofit" required some alteration to the "faux" magnets ... but not to Jason's pickup ...

The hybridization is completely reversible ...

Just figured some of y'all might like to see it ...

I'm wondering if you just happened to try it in one of your own guitars for a few minutes before you shipped it out to Hawaii.

I'm betting that had to be temptation????

I figured it's the least I could do ... for the man who saved the Hawaiian Papaya Industry ...

And yep, I gave it a-go before I sent it out ...

And liked it alot ...

Dear Rick:

I got the pickup after I returned from a week's vacation. It mounted fine
on the steel guitar and sounded great with the horse shoe!!!!

This new pickup has 'saved' my Excel since I was hardly playing it when it had the
old pickup because of its 'tinny' sound.

Thanks again for your help.

My son wants to learn steel guitar so I'll be sending him one of my steel guitars, but not the Excel.

Aloha,

Dennis

Basically that's very good.

It could be a little cleaner __ vacuum that debris off the bottom.

It's not nice to even attempt to fool Mr. Clean.
