A friend just turned me on to Terry Allen with the album, "Lubbock (On Everything)". It's a great album, Terry's my new favorite existential country rapper ( "some call me high hand, and some call me low hand, but I'm holdin what I am: the wheel).

The steel and dobro sound great, very tastful and great tone, and the album has a really nice recording, mix, and mastering quality to it. As I understand, Lloyd Mains plays the steel and dobro on that record. Lloyd Mains is new for me, too: can someone tell me what he's doing now, if he's still playing out and making records? It's a pleasure to come across a great record and a great player.

Thanks!
Cliff

There are several clips of Lloyd and Terri on You-Tube. Just type Lloyd Maines and you'll get it plus some other older stuff with Joe Ely.

Lloyd Maines also plays pedal steel on James Hand's latest cd"The truth will set you free",he plays steel on the Maines Brothers cd's(&lp's....and he plays steel in his daughters band The Dixie Chicks.
He produced the The Hot Club of cow town i think is their name but doesn't play steel on it.
He plays mostly on all early Joe Ely's, Butch Hankock's and Terry Allen's records, with Lubbock (on everything )you have the most interesting one...

He is a great musician and it seems a great guy!!

Thanks for all of this great info!

Well, Terry Alllen has now led me to Guy Clark. I know you guys have been listening to this stuff for years, but it's new for me, and it sounds great. Who's out there now who plays stuff this cool?

Thanks again!
Cliff
