I have been restoring an older late 50's tube amplifier as of late and I made a very careless mistake. While attempting to put my steel case back into storage I knocked a guitar case about 7 feet down to my work station and it hit my tube amp chassis. The only thing that happened is I bent a 12ax7 tube and I also bent this component shown here. I would like to know what this is and If I bent it slightly should It be taken to a repair tech. Also What could I have damaged by bending this metal cylinder. What is it housing? THanks
PS. THE PART IM TALKING ABOUT IS FAR LEFT IN THE PICTURE. THE ROUND Aluminum Looking cylinder.
THanks

That is an electrolytic capacitor. Probably in the high voltage filter circuit. You should not attempt to bend it back. It should be checked by a technician. The high voltage lines are wired to it and it is possible that the insulation between the terminals could be broken.
Do not apply power to the amp until it is checked. |

Thanks a ton for the fast response! I know very little about electronic components and circuitry. I'll Take it to a qualified tech as soon as possible.
Thanks again _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

Check the connections from the inside, if nothing is shorted, or broken, you shouldn't have a problem. Those "cap cans" have multiple capacitors "potted" in a common, (usually grounded) can. |
