ALVINO REY

SANTO FARINA

ROBERT RANDOLPH

PAUL TUTMARC of Audiovox

ROY MEYERS ("The Armless Musician")

Don't forget: Leon McCauliff, Ted Daffan, also at differen't times Noel Boggs had his own group. At one time he had the Intermission Band at the Hollywood Paladium where they played "Pop" with horns in his group. Once in a while I would visit Noel at his house and he would play some recordings he had of the group. One I remember in particular was "Moonlight on the Ganges" where he did some amazing chord work with his 2-neck non pedal steel. Noel also had kept an old National 2-necked steel he still had from his Bob Wills days.

And probably Herb Remington at one time. Jody Carver too.

I don't know if he still has his own band or not, but Wally Murphy used to have a great band in the St. Louis area.

Hi Doug, Rene Lajoy,(my first teacher), from Westport Mass. fronted a band that played in the Fall River/New Bedford area in the 60`s. I don`t remember the name of the band. He played a non-pedal triple neck Gibson.
It`s always an honor when you play lead guitar for "Rachel and the Western Partners", even though I get nervous on steel. Why don`t you front your own band and call it "Doug Beaumier and the Blooming Boomers."

Another west coast act would be Al Petty. He used to play all over SoCal as both Al Petty & the Countrymen and also for awhile in the sixties he was Al "Perry".... Also J.G. "James" O'Rafferty, one of the best vocalists around and one helluva steelman. Billy Mize who led the band at the Foothill Club in SoCal was also a formidible steeler.

There's a group here in southeast Virginia where I live now called Bubba Davis & the Right Combination (He had the name before Porter Wagoner by the way). Bubba's a great steel player and a nice guy to boot. Here's a shot of him!.....JH in Va.

I fronted a band with my girlfriend in 1988-9. It burned me out so badly I broke up with her and quit music entirely for almost 2 years. Crying or Very sad

Not to derail your thread Doug, but I just had a thought. How would it have changed "I Love Lucy" if Ricky Recardo had been a steel player?

"How would it have changed "I Love Lucy" if Ricky Ricardo had been a steel player?"

Joe, that's too easy. On Ricky's meager earnings, they would have soon gone bankrupt. Lucy would have split for Nashville and, always ahead of her time, become the new 'Reba.' Laughing

Herb, that is painful! I'm glad that you recovered from that. Smile

Barry Blackwood,
That is too funny. Lucy as a prototype for Reba when she couldn't sing a note on the TV show. And can't you just see Ricky doing Babalu on the steel? Probably have to be tuned open to do that, and use that effect Bo Legg was talking about in another post that could make his guitar sound like a drum.

Imagine that song from "The Mask" that Jim Carey sang, "Cuban Pete" done with Ricky covering all those horn parts on his steel guitar. Laughing Laughing

Laughing joe

PS: Sorry Doug. Didn't mean to side track your post. I just saw this a downright funny.

Quote - "Doug Beaumier and the Blooming Boomers."

How about changing that to "Doug Beaumier And The Booming Bloomers".

The music would be a total gas!

FWIW, last time I checked, I was still the leader of my band, Beats Walkin'. (Of course, that's kind of hypothetical, given how few gigs we've got these days.)

Oh and Dale Thomas leads his very cool western swing band in Iowa (and, lucky me, I'm gonna be sitting in with them, playing twin steels at the end of April.)

Uh-oh. Twin steels and twin leaders. Could be big trouble.

But seriously, Jim does a great job of leading his group out front with the steel.

Slim Yamaguchi is Chesnutt's bandleader.

Around here, Buddy Hrable had his own band he fronted, playing and singing, for a long time. He can chime in as I can't think of the name....
