Unfortunately she's only shown for a short while, but this YouTube clip displays Marian Hall's playing pretty well. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I agree with Doug, Marian also plays very well.
Does anyone know which tunings she used?
Someone made mention awhile back that there are videos/DVDs available of the Townhall Party.??

One of the best articles that I have read about Marion was in the Vintage Guitar mag. It was a interview I believe by Cindy Cashdollar. Really should check it out. |

Interesting, for sure! Anybody know who might have built that double neck guitar Joe is playing? I never saw one like that before...

If that one clip alone doesn't qualify her as the sexiest woman in music history..., probably my very favorite THP clip. |

Larry, I'm not totally sure, but I believe Joe's guitar was made by the MOSRITE GUITAR CO in California. As far as I know, they are no longer in business.
Larry Collins of the famous "Collins Kids" also played a MOSRITE double neck guitar.

Larry, that is a Mosrite Special, made by Semi Moseley. I believe his shop was somewhere around Bakersfield, CA. He died in 1992.
Joe “King of the Strings” Maphis played a gaudy, 1954-vintage custom-built double-neck Mosrite. |

WOW!!!!!! Great stuff. Joe and the gang pickin' up a storm. Marion was a very talented steel guitarist. I have seen other shows and she played some nice pedal stuff. I would love to see more. BTW How come my double neck Joe Maphis Mosrite doesn't sound like that. Oh well. Bobby |

Thanks guys, I thought that looked like a Mosrite from the shape and slant of the pickups. I remember seeing them on the Ventures album jackets.
The Ventures are currently marketing a guitar which looks like the old Mosrite, but it has the Ventures name on the head stock.

Man oh man!! Did Joe ever play a slow song in his whole career? Everything I ever heard out of this guy was wide open!!
Thanks for posting and bringing back some real pleasant memories of a time gone by and a time when effects pedals were not required, just pure talent.

That's great, Leo. She should get her own (Bear Recs.) THP video presentation (as should every member of that terrific TV program), as well as write a book about her unique life and times.
It'll never happen quite that way again. |

Do a search on Youtube for "Ranch Party Gang" and you'll find a couple more videos. Unfortunately I haven't found any more that feature Ms.Hall. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Bobby, there have been only a few SGF threads concerning Marian, but do an SGF 'search' and you'll find what's there, in particularly one that had Marian participating, and was probably the last things she ever did pertaining to steel.
The Town Hall Boogie is the most of, and best cut of Marian's playing on THP that I've ever seen, and she was with them the first 5 or so years in the early 50s, then Billy Mize took over on steel. |
