VERY nice! I like its break from tradition, yet with a very cool retro vibe.

Yowza those are sweet!

6 string starts at $1300
8 string with case and legs--$1700. The blue finish was a special order for Mike Ruffin and it added about $100. The anodizing is being done for me by Peter Kellet at PK Selective,
http://pkselective.com Peter is also doing a silkscreen/anodize hula dancer on a guitar for local steel ace, Patti Maxine. It should be done in the next week or so. I'll be posting a shot of that when I get it.

Re; control placement.

My hand sits right in the spot in front of the pickup opposite the rear control. These placements are custom, and I am getting feedback from respected players. The placement is different on the two guitars shown. One customer asked to have them in the rear. The other asked to have the tone control up front for Boo-Wah. The control cavity wraps around the the pickup so I have space for switching options on a two pickup model coming soon. Turner 'Farrier's' pickup and Lollar Chicago Steel with series parallel and a white MOTS pickguard.

I received my blue (actually turquoise) Cruztone yesterday and it is visually and sonically stunning! Colin does really nice work. I love the retro style and the finish on the fret board. If you will notice the headstock on the two guitars, mine is different. The two tone look really looks cool with the black body!
I had the controls set back further and I am glad I did. They don't get in the way at all.

I played these, very clean work, lotsa sustain, the liberal use of metal gives them that aluminum tone. Nice.

Yep that's a good way to describe it. They have some of that Frypan/Silver Hawaiian honk except a real hi-fi version of it. These guitars have a LOT of character. -MJ-

Colin, I believe I saw one of your guitars on stage tonight with Greg Leisz who was playing with Bill Frisell. It was a six string model. Real nice looking! I don't believe Greg used it but it's possible he played it in the first set when I was sitting in front of Bill. I moved for the second set and sat in front of Greg and know that he didn't play it during that set.

Hey David,

I was there too. I didn't catch the first set, but I was sitting near Greg for the 10:00 set. He definitely didn't play the Cruz-Tone, but I was hoping he would so I could hear it.

Great show! Leisz is quite the gear junkie. 4 lap steels (2 Ashers, National Dynamic and the Cruz-Tone) and his pedal steel. It looked like he had one signal path for the laps that went through a Tube Screamer, a Full-Tone OCD and some sort of delay/echo pedal. Then his pedal steel went though a loaded pedal board with one of those green Line 6 delay units, a Full-Tone Full-Drive, some sort of Rotary, or phaser, a Pro-co Rat, and other pedals I couldn't recognize. Then he had two amps which I believe were a Fender Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue and a Fender Blues Deluxe. He probably takes a few minutes to get set up!

If anyone in the Bay Area can get over to Yoshi's for any of the remaining shows this weekend, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Colin, now that I think about it I know he played your guitar once in the first set. From where I was sitting I was only able to see the front edge of his lap guitars as his pedal steel was blocking them. I remember on one of them there was writing on the front which I see from your picture said "CruzTone".

My lovely wife, Paula, and daughter, Jess went with me to Yoshi's last night. I brought the CruzTone (red 6 string w/Turner pickup) to Greg and handed it to him just after they finished the sound check. He played it on the second and third song of the set, and again for the encore.
Greg is a great guy and a truly awesome player. He gave the guitar a real test in the first set, and we agreed he would keep it for the remaining 7 shows of the weekend engagement. We're going to get together again on Monday where he'll give me his thoughts. He told me he's possibly interested in an 8. I'm working on selecting an appropriate replacement for the Lollar/Aiello h-shoe pickup. I should have that figured out soon.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say. See this show!!! Bill Frisell is a great guitarist. And the way Greg blends steel is quite beautiful, and a real eye opener. He's definitely broadening the horizon of steel guitar in modern music.

Colin, those are frickin' beautiful. Bet they sound amazing, too.

So, are you thinking of one of Rick's MRI's for a replacement for the Lollar/Aiello h-shoe pickup, due to the R-backer's "cease and desist" B.S.?

Rick Aiello and I have been working on a design that has performance equal to the h-shoes, but with a different look and construction. Stay tuned.
It won't be the MRI.
