I got myself a K&K Pure Western Mini (only $68 straight from K&K – it was supposedly some cosmetic blemish on it, but I couldn’t see any). I installed it in my Oahu squareneck last Saturday. It has such a high output I can't believe it's a passive pickup! I have got a Fishman Rare Earth humbucker in my other Oahu, and the K&K is quite a bit louder.
It is very sensitive, and picks up almost any noise (like the noise these old Klusons tuners make when turned, for instance…). The downside of this is that the attack of the fingerpicks is a bit loud in the output, but overall I think this pickup sounds great – very natural.
About feedback – I've only tried it through a Marshall 100W Valvestate amp, sitting in front of the amp, and then it was prone to feedback when cranked up a bit, but I think this may not be an issue when situated further from the amp/speakers. Has anyone else got any experience to share on this matter?
The installation with superglue was easier than expected. A funny detail is that the latex gloves I used got glued as well when installing two of the three transducers. So this guitar now has two latex glove fingertips (from the nursing home where my wife works) attached to its bridge plate.
Now I'm thinking of getting some sort of acoustic preamp for all my acoustics, in order to adjust EQ and volume for each guitar in a live situation. Any recommendations? Fishman, K&K, Baggs?
Cheers,
Fred

Now there's an idea! Hmmm.....
Funny you should post about this now,- I've just returned from an outdoor gig downtown, just me on weissenborn, an acoustic guitarist, and a singer. I sat right next to one of the (small) PA speakers and didn't have any feedback problems with the K&K at all, once the sound was set. In fact, the guitarist ran into feedback territory with the piezo in his Taylor long before me during soundcheck..

I've got a K&K Big Shot Internal pickup in my cheapo Lanikai tenor uke and it is VERY sensitive.
So sensitive that it does not need an additional pre-amp. So sensitive that I have to be very aware of where I stand in relation to the amp... feedback.
Nice natural tone though.
