I saw a Double 6 console steel on eBay the other day made by Mel Crews. I would have bought it, [or at least tried to] but the seller would not take Paypal. The minimum price was not reached and I have attempted to contact the seller without success. I have searched for a website for Mel, but to date have not had any luck. Does Mel make guitars professionally or is he just a talented occasional builder?

I have never heard of Mel Crews before seeing his name attached to the auction. The only references I'm able to find using Google for "Mel Crews" and "steel guitar" together all point to that auction.
I would be careful buying an unknown steel from an unknown maker over eBay. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Mel tried his hand at making some guitars and selling them on Ebay. I emailed him from the ebay auction and we talked a bit. He was in too much for his materials and his guitars were priced high as a result. He was in the process of selling everything and getting out of it. |

Oh well, Thanks for trying - His double six was really gorgeous - I am saving for a Remington single 8 (the best I can afford) since I somehow love the console models the best and like I said, the auction owner woud not take Paypal and now days if you do not take Paypal a significant number of folks will not bid (me included). I use Paypal for a lot of things since I don't have to have my CC# out there for different folks to see - only Paypal knows it.
Take care and thank you for looking,
