sometimes we get a warning "do not open XXX emails",,but in thunderbird, we must highlight (open) them to delete them?? Is there a way to delete them without highlighting/selecting them, which automatically opens them??

Those warnings only apply to old versions of Outlook Express, before they locked out ActiveX. Today's email programs have better protection. Just don't click any links in the suspect emails.

Most of those email warnings are hoaxes anyway.

Turn OFF you email preview pane. This will allow you to click on a message without opening it.

For you people getting Vista, you need to do the following to turn off the Preview Pane (now called Reading Pane) referred to above.

Right click the blue banner of the Windows Live (Windows email version of Outlook Express) window and under 'Customize Toolbar' select/add the option that they call Show/Hide Reading Pane.

Once that option is in your toolbar, you can toggle the Reading Pane on/off with successive clicks.

Changing this option is somewhat different than XP was. In fact they even changed the nomenclature for the pane.
