In case you missed it, last night on Crook and Chase, Vince Gill and Tommy White did a tribute song to John Hughey. It was called "Buttermilk John" and Vince played his "new" 1932 Martin and Tommy played his new BEAUTIFUL blue Show Pro guitar. Tommy, I've listened to you and admired your playing for a long time, and I've got to say your tone with that Show Pro was the best I've heard!! And, what a gorgeous guitar!! Jeff Surratt went over the top on this one!! |

The Crook & Chase Show is much better
than the GOO. The camera and producers
do great work.
What can you say about Tommy that hasn't
already been said, I wish he was my neighbor
I'd probably cut his grass and wash his
vehicle.
Tommy is awesome.

I saw the show as well. But I have to say, Tommy sounds awesome on any steel he plays and I did not notice much difference in the tone/sound from the other shows. So hence the age old question, is it the guitar or the player? They are both great steels and very sharp looking as well. I am recording each show; they are that good. |

A guy like Tommy can sit down to about any guitar and sound good.
When I worked with Bobbe he used to come in from time to time and try out different guitars, he sounded great on all of them.
One time that stands out in my mind was when he sat behind one of the most worn out Z-B Customs I have ever seen, it was an absolute fugitive of a chip mill! He made it sound beautiful!
I think the best tone I ever heard out of Tommy was when he played his blue Derby, the guitar he used on "An evening of E9th" with Lloyd. _________________ John Drury

Tommy could play a guitar with no strings and make it sound great. Truly one of the best players ever. Sorry I missed the show. Do they repeat the shows like every other cable station seems to do? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
