Hey friends,
I just got my copy of "Hot Club Of America In Hi-Fi" CD and I've really been enjoying it. This is really a unique CD. From the one of a kind rendition of "Misirlou" to the grrroovy version of "Brazil" and an nice take on "Limehouse Blues" (a worthy nod to the version by Django from "Le Hot Club De Paris"), through some unique twists on some classics and standards like "Autumn Leaves" and ending with a wild version of "Caravan". This collection is like the hipper, mischievous cousin of the early Speedy & Jimmy recordings.
Johnny Cucci's guitar work is first rate and very creative. The whole recording has such a nice playful and fun vibe.
What I'm trying to figure out is how Jody does what he does?! It sounds like all the "percussion" is Jody, (and/or Johnny?) doing intricate palm muting/plucking, controlled raking, volume pedal pumping and things I've yet to figure out~
I read a number of other posts about this CD and would like to throw my endorsement in as well.
This is a CD mastering of an important recording done in 1958. It's great that this recording is getting some of the attention it deserves!
I think b0b has some available -

Hi Ali,
I agree... very cool CD. I got it from Jody about two years ago and now it's on my Ipod.
See you at the New York Ukefest in six weeks. Let's try to jam a bit.

I don't think HCOA will ever die - more people seem to discover it all the time.
It's a cult classic if ever there was one - have you seen how much the original albums go for on eBay??
Not surprising - it's an amazing piece of work, a genuine article of American musical history . . . _________________
