I possibly may have to have a pacemaker installed
and I am wondering if it will effect the pacemaker if I play the steel. Has anyone run into this situation. |

The only thing I can think of that could cause any issues would be the magnets in the pickups on the guitar, or the magnets in the speakers. Just don't get the pacemaker overly close to them. |

Oooops indeed. Here IS my sign. STUPID!
Actually, I can help with this issue. My brother has had a pacemaker for probably close to 20 years now and he plays steel guitar. He's never said anything about any interference or problems.
Good luck. I really am sorry I read Pacemaker as Peacemaker.

Jonathon, that was what I was worried about, since thay are say that Microwave, digital phones etc. effects them.
Tamara, Im familiar with a peacemaker, but not sure on a pacemaker.
Joe, That is the kind info I'm wanting to hear, but would like to hear from others that may have a pacemaker. |

I have had a Pacemaker for 11 years. I play Steel guitar and Electric Mandolin with no problem.
The only problems I know about are with Electric Welding, and you cannot have a MRI scan. There is a setup of twisting the welding leads and position of the Ground Clamp and Electrode Holder and you can do light welding. No way to have a MRI Scan done. Microwave Ovens will not affect the modern Pacemakers. I suppose being very close to any large magnet could affect the Pacemaker. |

I'm on my second pacemaker/defibrillator, and have been playing steel with no problem with interferance for either one. You're more likely to get in trouble with your amp. You need to stay six inches away from the back of the speaker,(that's where the big magnet is)and don't go hugging it when it's on.
Those are pretty easy rules to follow, and it's highly unlikely that you'll run into trouble. If you're at a steel show, and the speakers seem to be bothering you, just move back a row or two. (I had to move to the back of the room once when Joe Wright was playing, because it was loud, and the sound waves were effecting my device.)
Happy steeling! |

Have worn a PM for about three years. Play every day, load and unload my steel and SK amp 2 times a week, no problems at all. I would be careful when carrying a 15 pound magnet - keep it under you right arm - might give you more energy than you can stand.
Just kidding. No problems so far. _________________ SL D-10, SL U-12,SL SD-10, Custom Tele w/B bender, Steel King, TC300 Effects, Goodrich H-10K pedal, Fender V/T Pedal, Hilton Pedal Elite seat. |
