I have a Shubb on my reso, love it for recording but was thinking of getting the JD flux model as well....does anyone know how much clearance you need at the 2nd fret to put one on? _________________ BMI S-10,3+4,Peavey Vegas 400,15"BW equipped,Goodrich 120,Zoom Studio rack mount-FX,Liberty Resonator,Fender Telecaster,JT-148 Jazz Box,Blueridge BR-180 |

Hi Dale,
if you can fit the Shubb, then you have more than enough room for the Flux capo. Mine is the original type and it is only 1/4 inch thick on the part going under the strings. 1/2 inch total thickness.
I have a beard capo as well and the Flux is way easier to install and remove quickly.
Jam On,

Dale, I'm not "dissing" the original Scheerhorn/Flux capo which is still available, but Tim Scheerhorn has a redesigned version (called "Scheerhorn" - no "Flux" in the name), and this newer version has a beefier brass piece, IMO a better option for limiting what I like to call "tone death" from using a clamp-on dobro capo which floats above the strings.
Tim's theory is the greater the mass, the better the tone.

At a Rob Ickes dobro work shop we had in the Bay Area a couple of years ago we did an informal trial of different capos, and the conclusion was that the two best capos on the market for limiting "tone death" were the new Scheerhorn and the Bradley. _________________ Mark |

I picked up a Beard capo recently, thinking it might be the "only answer." It buzzes like a bee on the top two strings unless I tighten the bejeesus out of it. Is it wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a new Scheerhorn? Should I just go back to my Leno (which I quite like)? Whuzzup?

I have a Beard - I'm not big on it.
Tighten it more to get rid of the buzz - it won't do anything to your strings.
But as far as limiting "tone death," go back to your Leno, it's a better capo. You don't need a new Scheerhorn.
The endless guinea pig for trialing cutting edge products in the dobro world, Jerry Douglas, has apparently been working with Paul Beard on some kind of new capo, but we haven't heard any results yet. _________________ Mark |
