For those of you who weren't at the great Steel Guitar Summit in Berryville last weekend, here's your chance to hear some of the great sounds from the weekend. The Moonlighters have a new CD out. You can buy it here (click on "The Music"):

http://blissblood.com/moon.html

I just ordered mine. I can't wait to get it! The music is fabulous! Anyone who was there knows what I mean!

Truer words were never spoken,...er, written. These guys/gals are tighter and smoother than a greased watermelon.

And since I found out what they do with watermelons in Texas , I haven't eaten one since, but I digress......

I've heard their new material more than several times and can't wait to get mine.

Mike, sorry I missed Moe Pitkins. I was real exhausted from a very busy week (Easter, you know) and just couldn't rally. See you at The Rodeo Bar tomorrow though...

Phewwwww ...

I retired to my "Lair" last nite ... with Surrender ...

First off ... by far the best Moonlighters album ... and I really like the first three.

Secondly ... Mike Neer has vaulted to the Top of the Heap ... right up there with the greats like Hoopii, Iona, Ku West ... etc.

Don't believe me ... think I'm just talkin' up my buddy ...

Then buy the CD ...

Listen to Andy Iona play Kakaako Rag first ... then listen to Mike's version.

And talk about "puttin' the hurt on" ... listen to him backing Carla Murray on Bali Hai ...

He can coax any tone he wants/needs outta that Tricone ... something that is quite rare in my opinion.

Yes. Mike is a busy guy on that Tricone. He really knows how to play well in all directions.

His backing of the vocals, fills, and embellishments make every aspect of this group shine. It is an art to add to, without detracting or calling attention away from the music that is going on. Sometimes his support & comping contrasts, sometime blends, but it is always tastful and supporting.

Solos? Yup. I agree with Rick....he's way up there.

Hopefully mine will be here tomorrow. I just checked my box today, and nothing but bills and junk mail. I feel like a kid running to the candy store each day when I go to the mailbox...is it here yet? is it here yet?

Meant to get one 2 weeks ago Mike but the Aerostar took an $800 dump and used up my 'fun munny'. I'll be ordering one in the next few days.
I have to admit I do so with trepidation knowing the depression over my own sad playing skills that will set in after I listen to it.

Jeff, thanks for the heads-up. (It was a pleasure to meet and hang out with you, Mike, Gerald and so many others for the first time at Rick's.) The Moonlighters are one rare, choice, cool and kick-@$$ band. I just ordered multiple copies of "Surrender",
and will be back for "stocking-stuffers" in a few months.

Yip-eeeee!

Finally got mine! What a masterpiece!!!!

Mike, you are 'da man (but I knew that before I got the CD)!

Awesome Tricone playing throughout. I like Mission to Moscow...good beat, and it gave you a chance to do some hot instrumental work. Your solos, background playing, and phrasings throught the disc is out of sight, Mike! Really! Your hands make that Tricone sing like none other. That is definitely the best version of Bali Hai on record.

Of course, the vocals by the two lovely ladies is great, too. Bliss and Carla's voices blend so perfectly together...."Hold your Man" is sweet and sooo sexy when they do those "MmmmmMmmmMmmm's".

Andrew can really slap that bass. What a great beat. It was unanimous at the summit between all of us watching, that Andrew is just about the best bass player around.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite song, but if I did, it's "Take A Picture of the Moon." What a delightful song...I just love that melody. When I saw Carla sing this at Rick's house, I was so enchanted...time literally stopped for me, and I felt like I was floating on a cloud of musical heaven. All the songs you guys did were great...but this particular one was extra special...Carla sang it sooo dreamy...it took me away.

And the best thing of all is, now I've got this wondeful CD to listen to over and over again. It brings back great memories of a fun weekend. I feel like I'm sitting back on the floor in Rick's living room in front of you guys again!

After seeing you guys live and hearing this CD, "I'll Never Be the Same!"

What a treat!

I'm typing this one handed since my other hand is wrapped in ice after trying to pick up this CD after playing it. HOT!

So many excellent moments on this CD.

Mike, you sound like you are playing with a jazzman's mind and a rocker's heart. I'm fairly certain that you are going to be required to register that right hand as a dangerous object.

Ahh, then you get to vocal harmonies. They make your heart ache with remembered passions.

Next thing you know, Andrew has that bow out, sawing notes so low that they make my speakers rattle. It's game over man.

Mecka Lecka Heiny Ho indeed. Outstanding!
