An early 90's model I think. Don't know for sure. But here's the serial # 1250991. This guitar plays and sounds as good as it looks. It has been extended to a 24 1/4 inch scale. An Emmons pickup and fret board were also added.Only one flaw that I can find.I will point this out in a up close picture. It comes with a Thomas case custom built to fit the guitar. The case is just as nice as the guitar.

There is a small crack in the mica on the pickup side. I also shot a pix of the bottom. The crack does not appear to go thru the cabinet.More details later.

The crack in no way affects the
playablility of the guitar. Example
. Cabinet drop on String 4.
2.5 cents.On string 6. This is the
one that tells the tell. With the
C pedal pressed only 5 cents. I've
had guitars that I payed 4 times this
much for the had more cabinet drop.
However, I want to be upfront about
everything. Many sellers wouldn't
even mention the flaw.
........Thanks...bb

Bobby,

When I purchased my Marlen, Len Stadler told me that the serial number was also the date of manufacture. i.e. this guitar's serial number would indicate that this guitar was built the 1st month (January) 25th day of 1990. According to the serial number on my guitar that would be accurate.

Respectfully

Im new to the steel and looking to buy my first.
I'd like to know what all is involved in changing to the longer scale length? Was this modification done by a professional?

Larry, thanks for explaining the serial #. In most cases it doesn't make any difference unless their have been improvments made. Now Sho~Buds are a different story. In the early 70's they seemed to change the undercarriage every few months.

Ronnie, glad you asked. The work was done by Mr Stadler. And he never left a mark on it.As to what was done. A 1/4 inch piece of aluminum was added to the key head side of the neck.

Now the question I had and I'm sure most of you have. How accurate is the fretboard.Well, it checks out maybe a tad more accurate than my Legrandes and Emmons push pulls.

Well Bobby, it certainly looks like a beautiful instrument worth the money. Could have started out as a double neck what with the hole in end, but should not matter IMO. Would think it should sell fast with posts from lots of guys looking for a first time pro-model. Cool
God Bless and have a Great '08.....

Stan, No, it was never a double neck. The Marlens and Emmons LeGrandes until around 1999 had the cut-out endplates on the changer side. Not sure when or if Marlen ever went to a solid end plate on the changer side.Emmons used the same end plates on doubles as SD-10's to save a buck.I guess Marlen did also.

I need to post pix of the undercarriage. No cuts-outs for pickups etc....THanks.....bb
