Flying Burrito Bros. "Christine's Tune"

Here's one that's been driving me nuts for what seems like forever: The lick that Sneaky Pete does at approx. 2:08 on the Flying Burrito Bros. "Christine's Tune". It happens right after they sing "whenever you are looking for a dime".

Any help transposing this lick to an E9th neck would be great.

If you want something naff to play there until you work out what is correct ....

(We play it in A) I just go back and forth between the 3rd string and 1st string on the 5th fret for that little bit. It sort of sounds OK, and sometimes if I fluff it and make a mistake - it sounds great!
