I'd like to share with y'all the results of my Saturday afternoon. I went down to Franklin, TN, to a guitar show my friends were attending. At one of the booths, there was a piece of white paper taped onto the display table that said "Emmons Steel with Stool." I asked to see the guitar, and promptly set it up. Turned out to be a lacquer body PP. The pedals played like butter. The knees were ok.
It's dirty and needs to be cleaned up and set-up by a good PP mechanic, but it is fully playable at this moment. Even with the rusty old strings, the tone was beautiful. It was even in tune! Ha, that surprised me.
The serial number is 1545 D. If anyone knows who the previous owner was, I would be interested in that. The dealer said he bought it at an estate sale.
Anyway I thought you guys might like to see some pictures of the guitar. It looks to have been hunter green originally, but it has faded to natural maple on the back and corners. Kind of the LDG syndrome.

Kyle:
I would suggest the guitar is too old for you...So if you would send it to me it would fit right in with my other three and we would both be happy , no ?
You are a lucky guy to find this horn. You are now hooked and will never get over the old p/p thing.
Old Bud
Too many steels...to list.. |

Whew, Benton, that's a good-lookin' steel. I've noticed that most of the lacquer PP's have what I call "block" binding (like Benton's) or "step" binding (like Manfred's). I haven't seen many with the zig-zag type that mine has. I recall the early Sho~Bud Professionals having this binding. Anyone got more pictures?? |
