how to download youtube videos and burn them to DVD in a format that could be played on my TV/DVD player.
The various explanations confused me so I decided to find out for myself. Here is what I came up with.
First you need a program to download the youtube vids. I feel that the one best suited for the job is Easy Video Downloader, here:

This particular one stays ahead of youtube's attempts at preventing us from downloading.
Download the files in the original format (FLV). Don't convert with this program.
Next, you need a conversion program that will also burn your chosen videos to disk. The one that seemed to work fine is this one:

DVD Flick lets you arrange your videos according to your own preference. I recommend that you download and print the pdf manual.
When everything is set up you press Create DVD and let the program do it's trick.
I burned 41 vids on one disk and the procedure took an hour and 15 minutes from the time I hit Create DVD.
I found the videos to be amazingly clear, despite the warning that youtube vids are of substandard quality.
Also, the sound was pretty amazing on my stereo TV.

You're welcome, Winston.
It's a handy thing to have when I want to practice the songs from the many steelers on the net.
Plus, it's more entertaining to watch that than many of the movies that are offered on TV.
Remember...when your Easy Video Downloader fails to work, it's Youtube that has it screwed up..simply update the program and you are off to the races once more.

| I have real player. Any U tube clip that comes up, there is a box that says Download this clip. I just click on it and it downloads to real player. Makes it simple. |

Andy..Vdownloader likely fell victim to Youtube disabling it.
With Easy Video Downloader they stay on top of that one with frequent updates. |

Andy, I've had to go and download a newer version several times on vdownloader. I haven't tried it in the last couple of weeks but I downloaded David Hartleys last one and it worked fine. Might try downloading a newer version. Ray

| I've tried several different versions of Vdownloader and no go. Apparently YouTube has somehow disabled it so when you try and download you get an error message. |

Ok, latest update. I was able to download videos with Video Downloader but it wouldn't play the video, only the sound until I downloaded the Xvid codecs that it needed. It now works perfect.  If anyone needs the codecs, email me. |

I just downloaded a file (Gary Gimble) from you tube.
With Easy Video Downloader.
It downloaded the file, and converted to to .avi, since I had set it for that.
Then I opened my VLC player and played the movie file no problem.
I then downloaded it again, this time in the .flv format. I opened DVD Flick and Added the file to the screen.
I opened the project screen and made sure that the program was set to burn on my DVD burner. I also checked that it would be done in the NTSC
format, NOT 'PAL' (that's the European format)
When done setting up, I pushed "create DVD" and 4 min later, there it was.
A good idea is to print out the instructions and refer to them the first few times. It is a bit tricky to catch on to.

THanks Bent, downloading is no problem. But I can't get DVD Flick to play it. i don't care about burning at this time.Would just like to download to my puter.

Bobby,
Flick is a conversion/burning program. It doesn't play (as far as I know)
For that you need another program, a "player"
You likely have Windows media, or Real Audio or my favorite VLC Player.
What you do is if you only want to play the files on your computer, is to download AND convert to .avi with Easy Video.
You have directed Easy Vid to put the file in a certain folder.
So you go to that folder, find the file, double click on it and presto, it starts playing.
There is one BUT here:
But if it won't play in WM or Real there are some missing 'codecs' on your PC. I have no idea about these ( Andy Sandoval does, so he'd be the man to contact for these)
However, it seems that VLC has these codecs already so I simply went and downloaded VLC here:

| I use a mac iBook G4. What is the best free programme to download and burn Y/Tube videos with. Some programmes only work on PCs. I would like to get the Johnny Paycheck vids currently on Y/Tube before they disappear. |

Ivan, I don't know if the two programs I suggested works with Mac. Your best bet is to go to the web site and read about them.
That said, basilh recommended this one for downloading to mac
