OK, non peddlers and Hawai'iana experts, it's slow at work today and there's a question that's bugging me as I've been listening to 3 of the popular online Hawaiian stations mentioned in past threads.

Why does it seem that more and more of the bands and solo acts revert to covers instead of writing originals? Don't get me wrong; I've heard a small percentage of original music, but the covers are so watered down and so......generically Jawaiian. Do the local musicians make more money sticking to the "familiar"? Are tourists and local fans alike just apathetic to originals?

Just curious.

That's what the public wants to hear so that's what the radio stations play.

I and a good deal of other musicians don't go near that stuff with a 100 foot pole.
