Hi,

My name is Abel Khineche, I live in Santa Clarita and am an oldies guitar player amateur.
By visiting the site of a Youtube subscriber, I found an amazing video of "Dave Hartley". I was really impressed. That's how I discovered this forum.
I wish I had learned to play Steel guitar instead as it is much more expressive.
I am glad I found this forum as I will be more influenced by the Steel guitar playing and sound.
To compensate for it, I try to play guitar with a Steel flavor by using the vibrato on some chosen steel tunes like "Sleepwalk", "Tear Drop" and tried my own version of "Orange Blossom Special", "Maria Elena" and "Hello Mary Lou".
Here are the links to youtube if you are interested:

"Sleepwalk"
"Tear Drop"
"Orange Blossom Special"
"Maria Elena"
"Hello Mary Lou"

Blessings,
Abel

Welcome to the Forum, Abel. I really enjoyed your videos. I hope you'll stick around and post some more.

With your talent, I think you should go ahead and bite the bullet and purchase a pedal steel and see where the real fun is. It would probably be an easy transition for you.

Glad you liked my interpretations.

It doesn't even come close to what you guys produce.
I wish they had a toy "steel" on which I could lay my hands on before I decide to go for the real thing.
Mike Perlowin from Simi Valley kindly invited me to attend the upcoming the "Steel Guitar Jam Session" in L.A next March. I am delighted to go and listen to all those experts playing my favorite instrument.

Blessings,
Abel

Actually, Jim Eaton is from Simi Valley, I live in L.A. Not that it really matters, but I tend to be compulsive about little details like this.

There is a fellow in town who wishes to sell a Mullen U-12. I invited him to bring the guitar and let people try it. As of this moment he and I are playing telephone taq, so I don't know whether or not this will happen.

Mike,
I really do live in Santa Susana, we are just about 500 yds outside the city limits of Simi Valley and we are in an un-incorporated area of Ventura County, but hardly anyone knows were it is if I say Santa Susana. Everyone seems to know Simi Valley from the Rodney King trial Sad

I just spoke to the fellow with the Mullen. He will be at the jam, with the guitar (and a "for sale" sign.)

Able, I've not seen this particular guitar, but Mullen is one of the best. You ought to seriously consider this one. I'd consider buying it myself if I didn't already have 3 steels.

Jim., I remember now that you live in Santa Susana and not Simi Valley. I guess I had a Sr. moment there. Embarassed
