| Years and years ago most music stores carried these nifty collapsable stands for lap steels. They had three legs that were retractable, a center post that was hight adjustable and arms at the top that spread to accomodate most lap steels of that day. Does anyone still make/sell them or does anyone still have one stashed away that they'd be willing to part with? Looks don't matter as long as it still works and is sturdy. |

It might not be according to Hoyle, but several years ago when I was playing a lap steel in a band I used a key board stand. I just hund the peg head out over the end of the left hand rail. My little old cheap Morrel has some kind of non-slip back on it. the guitar never tried to slide off the stand.

| For now, I'm using an X-shaped keyboard stand, with some pretty strong velcro on the back of the steel, and the top of the stand (I can pick it up by the steel, and the stand will come with it...). I'm 6'2", the stand is a little too low for me. I'll sell it when I find something that fits better (or find a venue with a hole in the stage to stand in). |

Four or five of the National or Oahu stands have bid off on eBay.....one as low as $57.00 most recently and several others that went for more than $500.00! How 'bout that.
I was lucky and managed to steal one for just $50.00, slightly modified to my liking. |

| Evidently stuff I thought was junk back in the 50's is collectible now. I was just interested in this particular type of stand. Thanks for the input. We might as well put this one to bed. |

| I finally broke down and ordered a set of legs and sockets from Bobbe Seymour. Setting up the ironing board on stage was just getting to be too much of a pain.... |

| I made a stand out of an old music stand, the sort with an L-shaped bent-metal music holder. They can be rotated through 90%. Alternatively, you can remove the stand from the top, which is just held by four rivets, and attach a top made out of plywood. |

| Fellas...I was mainly on a nostalgia kick. If I really need a stand for playing I'll probably go with a keyboard stand or the music stand idea (I like that idea). Actually I'm pretty satisfied playing lap steel on my lap. |

| I went to Lowe's, and bought a steel sawhorse. Got a plank of pine and screwed it to the top and Voila! Lap steel stand. $23. |
