As many of you know, I am associated with Ravenwest Guitars. http://www.ravenwestguitar.com/elguit.html I don’t actually work for them, but I sort of act as a consultant and help out in other ways on occasion, and I get “paid” if you can call it that, in guitars rather than money. This means of course, that if I didn’t like the instruments, there would be no point in my continuing involvement with the company. But I feel that the guitars are really top notch, and among the very best of the Asian imports.

At present, due to a dispute over headstock design between our manufacturer and another, we have a number of beautiful Neck-Thru walnut and ash basses for sale, left and right handed. These have ebony fretboards, vine inlays, and Wilkinson tuners.

The basses come in 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 string configurations. The 8 stringers are double strings tuned in octaves, like a 12 string guitar. The others are all single stringed instruments. The 5 and 6 string (Walnut), and 7 (ASH) String models are available in either right of left handed versions.

Any of Them can be bought for under $360.00 plus shipping as we need to clear them out.

I must point out that because of the legal dispute, these basses may not be re-sold on ebay. Should you buy one and decide to sell it at some later date, you may sell them anyplace else, but if you put one on ebay, it will get pulled.

These are the real deal. We’ve had a lot of discussions on this forum about the quality of the new Asian imports. I honestly believe that Ravenwest guitars and basses are thoroughly professional quality instruments, more than adequate for the most demanding gigs or sessions, and far superior to many guitars and basses costing 3 or 4 times as much. The only thing they don’t have is a big brand name on the headstock.

All the basses are solid walnut or ash (7 and 8 string) body hard maple/walnut neck-thru, with ebony fretboards, vine inlays, a 35" scale and 24 frets. All the hardware is black.

All the basses contain active electronics, with 2 humbucking pickups and volume, treble, mid, bass, and pan controls. All the pots except the volume have
center detent positions.

Here are some pictures.

Of course. All Ravenwest instruments come with money back guarantee.

If interested, please email my friend Eric Bergquist at brzcool@yahoo.com please mention that you read about the basses here on the Steel guitar forum.

Thanks. Mike

Dave, Ravenwest is strictly an internet deal. That's why they don't cost more. If we went through the normal retail chain, everybody along the way would tack a little on to the price for themselves. By dealing direct and cutting out the middlemen, we can keep the prices down.

The only thing I can tell you is that the guitars and basses come with a money back guarantee, and if you get one and don't like it for any reason, you can return it for a full refund.

I forgot to mention a couple of things. The first is that that I discussed this situation with b0b before I posted the original notice, and he is going to get his percentage of every Ravenwest instrument sold through the forum.

The second is that our guitars and basses have been receiving rave reviews Harmony Central. Now granted most of the people at H C are kids who think that music was invented by Jimi Hendrix, and anything that’s not rock and roll is “the enemy,” even so, when a company gets as many glowing reviews as we’ve received you know they make a good product. I have a couple of their electric guitars, one hollowbody PRS style and one Strat style, and they are excellent made guitars. Well worth the money.

Eric (the company's owner) will take care of that. You just enjoy your new bass, and please spread the word. Thanks.

Bill there are 2 pictures of the 7 stringers in my original post. One of the front and one of the rear showing the beck heel. These are the ones that are light colored. Here are 2 more. One of the headstock, and one of a full view from top to bottom.

Mike. If you will pick out one for me and personally look at it and check the neck for straightness and low action I will buy it. Let me know if you have access to seeing the intruments. Thanks.

I do Bill, and will be happy to personally pick one out. I should mention though that every single Ravenwest guitar and bass is inspected and set up by a local wizard named Gil Chavez. Gil used to be one of the main guys at Tobias basses before Gibson bought them. If you know Mike Tobias, ask him about Gil.

Please mention to Eric in your order that you want me to pick one out for you. And don't be surprised of there's a work-in-progress CD of my new project included in the package.

Kenny, the price of the 7 string is $369. At present we have about half a dozen left. There's no way of knowing how long they will last, but obviously we're selling them on a first come first served basis.

Unfortunately we do not have cases for these. You'll have to get one at your local store.

Jay, I'll be seeing Eric later today to pick out Bill Hatcher's bass. I'll take a look at the one Eric picked out for you while I'm there.

I think you both will be very please with the quality of the basses, and I invite you both to leave some feedback here on the forum.

Since I am associated with the company, when I talk about how much I like the guitars, you have to take into consideration that maybe my opinion is colored by that association. I like to think I'm objective, but I'm only human, and might not be purely objective, as much as I try.

You guys have no ties with the company, and therefore you have more credibility that I.

Thanks for picking out the instrument Mike. Look for the tightest grain pattern in the neck laminations for the most strength and also plenty of reverse tension in the neck to compensate for the pull of 7 strings on a 35" scale. You can tell how much back relief is in the neck by releasing the truss rod. If the neck bows forward an inordinate amount then there is too much natural forward bow and the truss rod is having to work too much to straighten it out. Your tech there can easily determine this.

Hey Miike:
Can you give me the price of one of these 5 string basses? I am definitely interested in buying one, especially if you pick one out.
The ones (especially the darker tone) in the pictures look awesome.
I didn't see those on the url website.
Do they come with cases?

David (and everybody else) I have no problem picking out an instrument for you. But I do have a problem driving the 25 miles each way to Eric's house every day.

I will be seeing Eric in about 2 hours to pick out the 7 stringers for Bill and Jay, and, and will pick out a 5 string for you at that time. But I will not see him again for another week.

So if anybody else wants me to do this, you'll have to wait till next Monday.

I don't have the exact prices right now. I'll get them from Eric when I see him.

The basses DON'T come with cases. I know that we don't have a case that will fit the 7 string, I'll find out whether or not there are cases for the others.

Fred, my previous tag line was "Paris Hilton for President." Do you really want me to go back to that? (Although she'd probably do a better job than some of the official candidates.)
