My 50-60 watt Garnet Session Man has gone weird (again). A few months back, it started making STRANGE sounds towards the end of a gig. It keeps happening... it sounds like an Octavia/Scrambler fuzz mixed in with the clean(ish) tone. It only happens about 2.5 hours into a gig, and I've had it on at work today for 7.5 hours, and can't get it to happen, even at roughly gig volume.
I've replaced tubes, and had a two different techs look at it. The first didn't find much, and the second, who I just met (and is MUCH better) tested everything he could. The caps seem fine, so does everything else! The tech has a theory about the vibrato circuit.
Anyone here have any other theories?
Thanks! |

Yes, replace the bypass caps. These small-value electrolytes isolate different stages of amplification, and they can cause all sorts of noises, distortion, and oscillations when they begin to go bad. They are cheap, and there's usually only a few of them in the amp. |

Spend the extra and go for the GOOD caps
in your signal chain. Mojo, Sozo, Mallory etc.
If your techs good he'll know.
A fraction of the cost of installation,
but when they burn in they will make the amp
sound MUCH sweeter. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
