REMEMBER the rage.......when Robert Randolph hit the BIG TIME?
How about some of you steelers out there, doing a standing, playing performance, and about half-way thro' your playing, you break into a knock down, dragged out, TAP DANCE routine?
Tap dancers used to be the BIG RAGE......look back at Lawrence Welk and countless other big time variety shows.
Just think of the potential here, just waiting for YOU. Let's hear it from you guys. A real sleek, shiney black tuxedo. For the gals, they could do the same thing, wearing some little ice skaters outfit, or tennis outfit, or magicians assistant outfit, or whatever.
Who wants to step up to the plate? |

Ray, you must be crazy ! The reason I chose the steel guitar is because it looked so comfortable. When I played lead guitar in a band and we got our first steel guitarist I immediately noticed that he was sitting on a spongey plush seat and he had an ashtray on one leg of his steel and a drink holder on the other. He would slide here and there and hit an occasional tricky fast lick and get praises from everyone. After a few weeks of watching this I couldn't stand it anymore and joined the underground union of armchair musician's and got a job playing steel in another band.
Now, Mr. Randolph has come along and mixed aerobics and bullriding with steel playing. Too much for me... I will have to stick to sliding my bar here and there and playing an occasional fast tricky lick... |

Paul I still look and dance like I did when I was in college. Geezz I just realized I must have really been pathetic back then. |

Ray.. I like the idea of the girls dressed in whatever, but Tap Dancing? Is this a serious thread? I cant even "smooch" in time with music.. I have it in my fingers but not in my legs !! I always look at your avitar (small logo photo of yourself) and wonder whether you wear that tuxedo on stage ?? DH |

Ray,
I have caught myself breaking into something a little more that foot tapping or a repetitious stomp while practicing different swing numbers.
All this was from behind a non-pedal steel while standing. It immediately ceased along with any concentration on the song at hand after one look at my (happy) feet.
"Arthur Duncan" I am not.

Too funny Ray. Back probably early 80's I worked on and off behind this young gal who was a pretty good Country singer, but half way thru each show, and it didn't matter where we were playing a show, Brenda and her sister would go get these dance costumes on and come out and do a Tap Dance routine to some record the MOM brought along. Now Brenda didn't look to good in the tight dance suit but the Sister, well, we loved her !
bring back the Tap Dancers I say ! |
