Jimmy, Jazz is a lot more than playing fast. A shame that so many folks think that jazz is just a blurrrr of taste less notes that don't make sense to the masses and often to the players.
You say Jazz and everyone thinks "How fast can you play , Home in Indiana",,,,,,, In my mind jazz has many faces, beautiful, tasteful, rich intelligent and mature music.
So many great standards were done with great taste and beauty, and liberties were taken with the great melodies by wonderful musicians. This is the kind of "Jazz" I'm talking about doing, not "Watch how fast I can play this or that scale".
Most country steel players that try to simulate "Jazz" seem to think that faster is jazzier!
Jazz is to push the envelope of the intelligent side of great tunes. This is what I'll be TRYING to do, after all, this is the enviroment I was born into and raised in. I'm just going to touch on it, record what's in my mind and see how great I can make it before I retire.
And, I might add, because of many encouraging comments from my youtube clips, "Misty, Foggy Day, Tenderly and "Moonlight in Vermont" songs, I seem to have created a small fan base of folks and players that love this type of steel guitar that I didn't know was there. I'm glad, I love this style also.
Jimmy, I thank you for saying and asking this so I can let those who care know what a "Jazz" CD by me will be. Believe me, it WILL be enjoyable by the masses, pretty and mature music for those who care.

Thank you again Jimmy,

Bobbe Seymour

Kenny, Ken and Jimmy, I appreciate your friendship and following along with many other great friends throughout the years, it is for this reason that I find great pleasure in doing what I do, (trying to play steel guitar) so on this note, I'll say again, to you three and the rest of my great friends, THANK YOU!

How very true. I have always thought that there are a select few steel players who are genuine jazz players. I like the style of steel guitar that has a piano type approach with nice harmonic chord progressions over the bass notes. Reece A particularly excells in this field. Fast scales and runs have their place, but a classic ballad with fantastic chord structures cannot be beaten for 'listenability'.

The song Tenderly is an example where I have heard this played on a piano with some improvisation of the harmony that has blown me away.

Jazz and taste can go together. Just listen to Ben Webster on Tenor sax. Incredible feel and soul.

Go for it Bobbe!!

Don't forget Vince Guaraldi.
"Christmas Time Is Here" is one of the prettiest jazz tunes, Christmas or otherwise. I would love to hear a treatment of it on steel.
In any case, good luck with your project, Bobbe.

Andy and Ken, thank you. Yes and actually it was Maurice A. that was my inspiration 45 years ago to play these great tunes AND HOW TO PLAY THEM. He is responsible for my style and C6th playing in general. As kids he was a great influence as I was mostly country in the beginning. I still feel he is the best ever at this incredible jazz music approach.
I just need to record my interpitation of some of these great tunes of yesteryear.
I deeply thank you guys for your interest in this project.

Evil or Very Mad Bobbe you can't retire we won't have anyone to pick on ! Cool I might add that i appreciate your playing and also the little things that you do in the songs that make us laugh ! There aren't many players that can play serious like you do and then do something funny in the middle of it . Thanks for making us proud to know Bobbe Seymour . G.P.

I was surprised when I went to Bobbe's website a few days back and listened to his playing clip of the song "Misty" on his old vintage 51 Bigsby.

It is one of hte nicest things I have heard on a steel of that type. His tone and playing are as good as it gets. I am looking forward to his new CDs.

He's a Master Steel Man! I am a big fan of Bobbe's!
Hey, after supper tonight, for desert go to his website look up the version of that song Misty. It's better than ice cream with all the goodies on top. Winking
