I'm a huge fan of these guys, but this is an amusing clip for those who think they sound better on drugs:

I actually hit the carpet and lost my breath laughing at this one, especially when they go into the "Questions" part of the tune at around 3:48. Enjoy!

I can get into that all gas pedal no steering wheel sound. Its good to see them cutting loose.Although I sure don't envy anybody who is high on that awful powdered anxiety drug those poor fools had a taste for.

It makes me wonder what I was polluting my body with at the time, because I thought these guys were a great band.

We've all seen good CSNY footage of this time period, but this made me howl. It seems they get a grasp on the harmonies when the electric guitars die down, so a bit of it might have been bad monitors. But they're definitely in the middle of a snow storm party here, with the gig an annoying distraction.

I read where this was the encore after a four hour show...that would thrash anyone, high or not. I'm thinking there was a monitor issue as well. So probably a combination of things. Too bad, their harmonies were always their high spot...no pun intended. Smile

Oh yeah, this is really rough in places. I also cringed at the harmony vocals starting around 3:48. It almost sounded like Nash was singing in a different key. Or maybe his voice was shot.

But this is a live performance in a huge stadium - it is what it is. Lord only knows what the stage sound was like. This was apparently the end of a long show, they were pumped up but shot. The rhythm section sounded solid, and probably kept the crowd moving. I woulda' dug this at the time. In fact, I did at a lot of shows like this. It's rock and roll - no more, no less. Even with all these imperfections, I'd rather hear this than some autotuned and sequenced blah blah.

Its raw soul. Musicly its outstanding in its feel. Young and Stills especially. Great rythm section. Yeah the harmonies were pretty off, but thats the live 60's west coast rock and soul sound. Its the Macro that counts.

I have (what I think) is the whole concert, and it's kind of all like this. Balls out musically, especially Young and Stills, but a bit stinky on the vocals. On that note, all the live stuff I've heard from these guys is shaky. There's a Fillmore concert on film that shows Stills often backing off the mic and putting his finger to his ear, then coming in close again and singing what 'some' might call a harmony???

Big points for guts and feel, though, agreed.

I guess it depends on who's doing the drugs... Razz

Like the "Circle Jerk" guitar playing. Winking Haven't done that one since my early 20's Laughing

Seriously, I can imagine if the live sound was dodgy and they couldn't hear their voices properly... well, I've been there.

Do a youtube search for their version of Blackbird(singing in the dead of night). It gets no better for CSNY fans.JP

(edit to add-"The Woodstock version")

I think that half the reason they sound so bad live is that they sound so good on record. The contrast is so stark.

Ya, their version of Blackbird is insane. I love CSN(Y). Stills is one of my heroes. I just think that ego and drugs got the better of him.

As I hear it Nash is getting by with power
because he voice is burnt from too many
high notes for too long.

If this is the encore after a LONG show,
then it makes perfect sense.
I was actually expecting worse
from the comments above.

That's a real coincidence that this video has been taken down right now, after being up for so long. I found this clip months ago. I'm not one for a conspiracy, but I do have a feeling this forum is being monitored at times by record people - who look like this emoticon: Cool

David D.

I tried the CSNY Wembley link in Firefox. They told me to download latest Adobe, which downloaded and installed I guess, but still can't view it.

Mike, that link cracked me up as well. I thought for a minute there that Stills and Crosby were gonna start necking. Must have been the jet lag.

This is a much better 80's performance.....but check out Nash. He is just a bit too into it, if you ask me Smile :
