How many of the 6,000 plus members on this forum are receiving payment from copyrighted music?
ASCAP has hit Austin again, this resulted in the closing of one venue that provided an outlet for songwriters, small groups trying to learn the craft for many years. This is a cafe where the musicians performed for tips mostly and a hamberger with drinks at dinner in the evenings.I have not heard what other venues are going to do.
I am 100% in favor of collecting the fees for the legitimate purpose of paying royalty payment. However their statement to the local news station was they need the fees to operate ASCAP, no mention of payment to other parties. I have know several people who were not paid anything for their songs. Just wondering how wide spread this non-payment is or if indeed they are making the payments to the proper parties.
