A happy new year to all.
I have a Peavey Session 500 mk lv, I get a very good sound/tone from it (so I've been told), but the question is: I have the tone mod kit for it that I purchased from Ken Fox, and I'm in 2 minds weather to fit the kit or leave the amp as it is, what should I do? Also any help & advise with regards to the Brad Sarno mod kit for my Peavey Nashville 400.
est wishes,
Dave.

Although on an old amp, such as this replacing the electolytic caps in the preamp will bring it back to original "life" other than that I'm in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" side. I used to be an amp tech and always repaired items to original factory specs. |

Hi Dave, opinions here will vary, but FWIW, I put a mod kit in my 500 and couldn't wait to get it back out. The sweetness was gone after the mod...and back after I returned the amp to the original specs. It was a little quieter with the new chips installed, but the sound was not to my liking at all. best of luck, BH |

Dave, if you get a good sound/tone whatever now, and you know it, why change it? You may regret it. Most players as you know will go to an alien amp and dial in to get their own tone anyway. Have a good 2008 with "Perfect Strangers" ....good guys

Dave:
I will let you know in a couple weeks. I just sent
my Nashville 400 to Ken today. It already had the
Peavey mod and I could tell very little differnce
from stock. My Nashville is one of the first. I bought it new in the early 80's.
I have a Session 400 with the Sarno mod. It sounds
great.

Unless you have an unmodified model sitting next to a modified amp, it would be very difficult to determine the changes in sound. |

I have 3 amps moded by Ken Fox and they all sounded better, a N112, A Vegas 400, a Silvertone, and the 4th is on the way Sat. another Vegas 400, and yes I have 2 Vegas 400 side by side and the dsifference is like day and night, it is so much better or I would not spend the money. Just ask Russ and Randy, Russ liked his Nashville 400 mod so well he has his
web up for sale.
I think Russ Hicks ears are pretrtry good example of what you can exspect from the mod.
I will be playing the
vegas 400 at the club meeting Wensday.

Dave, the tone kit you have is based on the Peavey tone kit they sell. It just uses higher quality caps than the Peavey kit. The component values are the same. The chips are the same as in the Peavey kit.
I do not suppose Peavey would have sold a tone enhancement kit for the Session 500 unless there was an improvement to be realized by installing it. |

Hi Ken, no dissrespect was intended to you, for I know that your mod kits are the best! Its just that I have a little niggle at the back of my mind that if I change the amp by fitting the mod kit will my ears like it? I know that I'm probably being stupid or nieve but I may fit it at a later date.
Kind regards,
Dave. |
