I have an old ,38 Ricky with an extremely tight Volume Pot. I have put up with it for long enough so decided to change it for a new one.Big mistake even though the new one was 100K the correct value, my tone changed drasticaly, so put the old one back in,tone back to normal.I checked the value again the original read 96k the new 98k however what the big difference was the taper, the big old bakelite had a very even taper ,the new Alpha was very abrupt.I decided to try a fix on the original.I undid the tab on the back and found a very interesting design so totaly different to a modern pot.I found there is a srung arm that pushes a round metal hoop which in turn contacts the resistance strip, the problem was the spring was too tight.I bent it a tad and Viola a beautifully loose Volume control, problem solved been able to keep the original.I posted this in case anyone has the same problem, mine was a Centralabs pot .Cheers Kelvin

These pots are on several model late 30s Rics. Very unusual design. Heres a picture of the guts.
