I have appreciated the talents and recordings of Joe long before approaching the pedal steel on a personal level. I have many of the "albums" and cd's produced by Joe, over the years, that I treasure and listen to on a regular basis. His style, talent, choice of material and personal approach to applying the pedal steel to a range of songs is nothing short of genius.
In my few communications with Joe, I have found him to be very humble and sharing. He has been a prolific recorder and churned out a ton of great tunes. We often discuss those that take the pedal steel into new frontiers, well, Joe has been the Captain Kirk for this instrument. Do you agree?
I want to send this trial balloon up for your consideration in the Forum community. Please participate. Your comments will be both interesting and supportive and may result in his being named for HOF consideration, which he so richly deserves. |

Thank you Dennis for your generous comments and appreciation. As I've mentioned to you, you're my biggest fan!
Dennis communicates with me from time to time and recently mentioned that he was going to post about nominating me. I explained why this wasn't a great idea, mainly because I don't pick at anywhere near the level of the greats, many of whom aren't even in the HOF. But, as you can see, what I do resonates with him and he decided to post it anyway. Although it's Dennis' post, let me say that no comments are needed as this is a little awkward.
Thanks,
Joe |

Ya got my vote, Joe. It's not always "hot licks", but "artistry" is important as well.
I don't know of anyone who has put out anywhere near the number of interesting and unique albums covering the breadth of music that you have.
Also your playing "ain't too shabby" either |

The SGHOF not only honors the playing abilities but also the general accomplishments for the instrument. In other words, what did a certain person do to bring the instrument forward, expand its popularity and reception in the musical world. There is a wide variety of inductees, from the early pioneers to the great stylists and players of all eras, but also those who were recognized not only for their playing abilities. Builders like Shot Jackson and Bud Carter, entrepreneurs like Tom Bradshaw, TV personalities like Rico Turchetti and Jody Carver and pop stars of their times like Santo & Johnny.
Nominations are possible at any time and Joe would certainly deserve one.
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |

Joe is a great player deserving recognition. He has taken the instrument to places that it hasn't been before without having to go so far outside the box that the integrity of the instrument is lost. Joe's playing has been a great inspiration to me. HOF-yes!! _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |
