My friend Steve has this single 10 lap steel.
It is a 50's Sho-Bud according to him.
The serial is #12. It is stamped under the tail piece.
It is a 10 string with a stock pickup. The pickup doesn't look good but it works.
It has a 2 1/2" Maple body, it sounds great and he needs to sell it.
There is no case.
Make offer!!!!!!!!
Call Steve at 417-460-0053
I will post a picture when I figure out how to do that.

It would be awesome to see a frontal of it. I'm wondering if the logo is all intact, etc. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Terry, the thanks should really go to my friend James Morehead, who graciously explained it to me. I've made a copy of the instructions I sent you, and will post them to anyone who needs them. I hope you'll post more pics of all the different angles of this old axe..
My understanding of the history is that Shot and Buddy got together, and from the git-go built pedal steels. But I think anyone could order anything. And non-pedals, although rare, were probably made. Interestingly enough, there have been some really old pedal steels offered on ebay that look very much like this one. Forum members assured me that they weren't Shobuds. Now, I'm pretty sure they were!
Anyway, post some more pics, cuz I'm interested!
best,
JB |

There are a few youtube videos of Jerry Byrd where he is playing his d-8 sho bud non pedal. I think the scale is shorter than normal but it's basically looks like the normal sho bud cabinet. That one sounds good on youtube. |

Steve, I met Jerry when he was playin' at the Beechcomber in about '76/78. He was playin' a non-pedal Shobud that I think was an S-11. Looked just like a Pro-I. Some kinda diatonic, charismatic, bizarre tuning. It was a Monday night, and the only people there were me, and a gorgeous hooker on her night off. She followed Jerry because she loved his music. The three of us had great conversations during every break! And that's as far as it went! |
