There seems to be a lot of bashing the Cold Case episode with the steel. Here is one of the clips.

Episode Setting: This is after the "Sugar Boys" with "Truck Sugar" and "Dusty Ray - the steeling junkie" finished opening for the main act. Character "Edi Low", the main act in this clip. My understanding is the songwriter, Mike Stinson, is faking steel on this video. My understanding is Chris Lawrence did the actual steel work on this track.

So judge for yourself, there seems to be a lot of bashing the Cold Case Episode from folks that did not even watch. Where else are you going to hear some very nice steel on a primetime detective series. I think all the steel tracks in the episode were excellent and tastefully done.

I do agree that it was great that there was even a show on TV that had a steel guitarist as a character in it, and had good steel playing in it. I just wish the show itself had been better, not as a steel player, but as a 'TV consumer'.

I'd like to hear Stinson singing this tune. I bet it's a lot better. I'll have to track it down.

Colm,

I don't think anyone was bashing the steel playing at all, at least I wasn't.

What I have a problem with is a series that is trying to make me as a Nashvillian (I won't say I am a steel player by any stretch) look like a moron.

I know a very large number of steel players here, none of wich are hooked on skag and hocking their friends amps, and I know a lot of women here, none of wich are as out to lunch as that Charlene dame.

And a sherrif known by all as Big Daddy? Please!

Very shallow writing in my opinion, Truck Sugar?, Dusty Ray?, The Sugar Boys? Come on, that is lame as hell!

I liked most of the C C episodes I have seen, but that one was pretty stupid. JMO

Two things: First, the steel is pretty tasty, much more so than the relatively nasty unison vocal.

Second: The presumably wronged chick coming in at the end looks like a young, very hot Emmylou. Am I wrong?

the whole clip looked and sounded quite shallow to me....just like lots of real life. fun to see a steel on tv ....wish the steel player'd put his little finger down on the strings behind the bar though...that was weird.

That is the first thing I thought too Chris, when I saw the hands part......... but hey..... at least it was an Emmons........and not a 3 legged Fender trying to imitate a pedal guitar........so for me it was"plausible" like they say on Mythbusters
