Ok so it rained today here so after my church job I could not go fishing so I went down to my little studio and recorded a track of Leavitt tuned lap steel playing a slow country tune called "Am I That Easy To Forget" by Jim Reeves. The idea for the tune came from one of my pedal steel heros Julian Tharpe. Anyway the steel is just by itself with only bass and a drum loop. The exposed steel can be so soulful on single notes!! The improv in the middle goes to the blues!!! I did not use any distortion or gadgets so I just had to rely on some cool licks I found.
I love the mood of this. Let me know what you guys think.

That's really pretty. It's snowing and way too cold to fish up here...glad you had the day off to record it. It warmed up the evening. |

Great tune and I liked the blues licks really well.
Can you refer me to a site that gives the notes and string guages for this tuning?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Norm.
The Leavitt tuning for 6 string is from low to high C# E G Bb C D.
Notes added above or below are up to the individual. I add Eb and G above and Low Eb and G# below depending on either 8 or 10 string.
The string guages are dependent on the scale of the guitar. I do not know of a site that will give you these.
It is a great tuning for all sorts of playing with more chords without slants than any other tuning I know. Have fun. |
