Now that Christmas is over I have been thinking of 2008! In February, Branson has one, in March, Texas has one, in April, Siloam Springs has one, in May, Tulsa has one, in June, Marshfield (I think) has one, in July, Branson has a BIG one, in August, St.Louis has a HUGE one, in September, Bill Jobe has one, and in October, Baxter Springs, KS has one. There is also another one in October, it's Hot Springs, AR. And then in December, Branson has a Christmas party again. What are we talking about? Steel Guitar Shows, conventions, and parties. Aren't we privileged to have so many places to enjoy steel guitar music in driving distance of the Hanley home. I realize there are many, many more shows all across this great nation and as yet I haven't visited these but perhaps I will some day! And in between all these shows you can have a 'jam' at your house. We plan to have several this next year! Dosen't this sound exciting? Tune your guitar and get after it!!!! |

It's funny and fortunate the way steel shows have proliferated over the years and around the country.
If it were not for these, there would be very few places to get together with friends and play and hear good steel music, as live country music is not readily available in most parts of the country anymore.
Instead, as Jeremiah points out, there is somehting going on every month all year long.
We're lucky indeed. |

Great to hear from you, Tony, (another member of the steel guitar family). You're a long way from us here but I have a good friend in Delaware that isn't too terribly far from you. Do you have friends there that you jam with? You're certainly right, these steel shows are great places to be with friends and listen to great steel music. |

I can honestly say I have never met a steel player from Delaware!
And yes, that's a little far...but who knows, maybe a steel guitar show will come along near his area.
Up here in New England we have three annual steel shows...all very entertaining and just a good day/night out.
Hope he joins the fun! |

You didn't mention one of the best, the Phoenix show. It is only 4 weeks away, and I'll bet there won't be any snow and ice in Phoenix. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

There's also a good steel show in Saluda, SC that is wonderful, and also the Georgia Steel Guitar Association Peachjams are really amazing! In 2008, my goal for steel shows is to look for new material to play for shows. Steel shows and steel organizations are wonderful things to be a part of, because you learn from them and there are so many great players involved. |

Thanks to all of you! It's exciting to hear about all these steel shows from Phoenix to the east coast. It would be fun to get to visit each one. Hey you all, if you're not watching football or not sleeping, Venda and I host the Gospel Hour on SteelRadio.com the 2nd Sunday of every month from 2 - 4 p.m. There's good steel music on every song! Tune us in and turn us up! |
