I recently bought a vintage GEBS lap steel. I suspect that it is from the '40's. Stamped into the wood at the end of the the head:

1426 G

The G is of a different,larger font.

I read somewhere that Nationals used a
a code that involved the letter G during the '40's.

Can anyone here contribute to my search for info?

The GEBS steel listed here in an earlier discussion is not a Valco-made lap steel. Clay Harrell has a Valco dating chart here: http://www.provide.net/~cfh/national.html#valco

Send me a picture if it's not the same instrument previously discussed; I may be able to identify it.
