Just thought I'd share an "epiphany" I experienced in an effort to "tweak" the Custom 15. Bought one new 'bout two years ago and wasn't able to get "the sound" I was looking for. The amp was out of commission for a short while due to some apparent shoddy workmanship in the wiring...a great tech here in Nashville got her going and I was back to hunting the sound. One day last week I got the notion to activate the "bright" switch and,as a result, seemed to miraculously transform it into a totally different sounding amp. Up until then it seemed that the only controls that did anything were the volume, reverb, and treble....all the rest acted as though they were connected to nothing...the overall sound was very midrange-y, what most players don't like.Got so used to NOT using the "pull bright" knob on all the Peaveys I've owned, and never thought much of it. Was almost set to let the Twin go and get a couple of Nashville 112's but now..second thoughts. Getting everything out of the Fender that I'd expected...was just hoping to get an alternate good sound from the usual, great Peavey tone. Sometimes simple little ideas make a big difference(duh!!). Would appreciate any input on this subject...could be helpful! Respectfully submitted, RK

i've used peavey amps for over 30 years...they work for me...they take abuse. i've always had trouble finding the tonal center with a fender tube amp...for steel. but lately i've used a twin at rehearsals in a friends garage, and there is a beautiful edgy gooeyness that comes out of them at moderate volume. maybe now i understand why so many fender amps have been used for steel recording.
then again.....i usually get a good sound recording direct into the board...but it's special what the fender does!
