I came across these new Zebra strings today by DR Strings. According to the sales hype ..... It is the very first string where you can SEE the difference. Every other coil is nickel-plated steel, every other coil is RARE phosphor bronze... wound on round-cores.

I wonder how they'd sound on a lap steel. Would a magnetic pick up "hear" the nickel signal and virtually ignore the bronze signal?

According to their web site, the Zebra's are built for electric acoustic guitars with piezo pickups or sound hole pickups. One web page says they are wound on hex cores and another page says they are wound on round cores..?
I don't think they will make much of a lap steel string...just my opinion from what I read.

I tried a set on my Goldtone copy. I have a Mac "Feather" pickup installed. I did notice a difference in tone and volume.

What was that difference George, good or bad, louder or quieter?

I suspect these may even out the radical volume difference between the plain 2nd string and the wound 3rd string when using a magnetic soundhole pickup and bronze-wound strings. If they keep the acoustic sound of bronze-wounds then they might be worth a shot..
