Happy Holidays everyone ... Way back in the late 70's and early 80's , i had the pleasure of working with Tom Bath at a few gigs in and around Houston , Texas , Wow !! what a player !!! does anyone have any current info on Tom . And is he still playing Pedal Steel Guitar in his socks on a gig ?

Hey Keith! Hope you are doing well! I too remember Tom Bath. Last I think the last I heard he had moved back to upstate New York. Yes, he was quite a player. I saw him when opened for Buddy Emmons at a concert in Pasedaena, TX. that was put on by Herb Remington in 1982. He wowed everyone in the room. Didn't he play in the house band out at Cotton Eyed Joe's on Gessner?

| Tommy Bath is my teacher and my friend. He has been so for the last ten years. I am good friends with his father Lee also. Tommy is one of the best players in the world. He is directly reponsible for me playing steel guitar. He has seventh string moves that he invented and some other moves that were disseminated in Texas. This is not idle talk, its the truth. Some of the moves are heard on recordings today. He does not play professionally anymore. When he does come out to play he always attracts quite a crowd. He lives about four miles from me here in Buffalo, N.Y. |

I saw Tom play in Austin at the Armadillo World Headquarters in about 1976?Man his speed was blinding...He was in a band from N.Yawk that opened for the Burritos,I was standing next to Sneaky Pete backstage and he told me that Tom Played great,Kevin does he play without shoes?

| I was also at the '82 Pasadena,TX show where Tom Bath opened for Buddy Emmons. Bath was playing a black Franklin and Emmons was playing his rosewood short keyhead LeGrande (with the rose on the front) One of the best shows ever! I also saw Tom Bath in clubs around Houston. A very advanced player. |

| Hey Tommy ... good to hear from you , yes , Tom played @ Cotten-eyed-Joes in the house band , that is about the time i went to work with Issac Payton Sweat , i did not work in the house band there but did do a few nites there before hitting the road with Ikey . i was also at the Pasadena Show when Tom played , he opened the show ,and man did he open it !!! Haggard , Norm Hamlett & John Anderson were also there , they were in town for the Livestock Show & Rodeo @ the Astrodome . |

Wow. Does this take me back. I gigged a bit around Houston, late 70s, 80, 81 or so. Tommy was working with Randy Cornor at a regular gig. Randy was one of my early idols. First gig I ever played in Houston, we opened for Frenchy Burke. Randy was Frenchies band and Roy Head was the guest "star".  (Wells Fargo club, circa 1975).
I lived fairly close to the club Randy was working and whenever I dropped in, Randy would always invite me up to play, which made me feel quite honored. I later played a show with Darrell McCall and Tom was there.
I never saw a better steel picker. And I mean, NEVER. Buddy was always the king of swing, Franklin was always the speed, and then there was Tommy. Any style, any tempo, he would nail the pocket, and man, what taste he had. He once joked to me that his neighbors complained about him "sewing" at all hours of the night. He would turn the volume down on his rig and play at hyper speed for hours (it sounded like a sewing machine).
Always wondered what happened to him. Last rumour I had (around 1990 or so) he was traveling with Ray Price. But that could have been a tall tale.
