These original Kluson tuners need replacing and I cant seem to find any similar tuners with 5 tuners on the one plate and the holes drilled in the centre of the pegs. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to replace the pegs and gears with parts from the single tuners that either Kluson and Gotoh manufacture? Or better still is there a direct replacement on the market?

| They are on the way out, a couple of them are notchy to the feel and they shed some metal from inside when I cleaned them prior to regreasing. |

| Bill, I've got a 70's model Fender Deluxe 8 that came with single F style tuners. I thought they were some aftermarket item but that's the way the guitar came from the factory. Here's a link |

Try and repair them and nurse them along a little, nowadays they are as rare as Rocking Horse manure or Hen's Teeth !!
Eventually SOMEONE will find a way to duplicate the pan and tuner assembly, but it's not been done yet..
With a little ingenuity you MAY be able to replace the tuners and swap over the barrels (the ones with the hole in the middle).
I've changed the gears AND the button/axle/worm part.
I've had to, living as I do in a wilderness regarding USA made parts..

| We need to see a picture of the underneath of the pan, where all the movable parts are. As Basil said, most of the problems can be repaired with a little ingenuity. |

Alan, underneath we have what appears to be regular Kluson deluxe tuners fixed to a base plate by metal tabs folded through slots.
Basil, that is what I want to do with mine. What parts did you use? I was wondering if Kluson parts still fit. |

Bill, all I can tell you is that the Klusons from a 1970 Emmons D-10 have the same parts, and that's where I got my spares from.
Also the tuning pan is a flush fit, so, you CAN use individual Klusons if you are prepared to accept the hole in the end of the barrel rather than centrally located.
If you bend the tabs with a flat blade screwdriver you can take off the cover and disassemble the individual tuners.
It is a PITA, but workable if yo have basic engineering skills, like drilling, filing and the likes, otherwise you can get one of the Fender "Guru's" here to do it for you.
"Old Brooksie" is quite familiar with the Fender mk2 pans, he can 'walk/talk' you through it. |

Stock Klusons or Gotohs will fit, but as noted the hole will be in an odd place. Small price to pay when you need tuners, though. I have found no other suitable replacement, and I have tried probably two dozen types.
