Great stuff - Sounds like Chuck Campbell to me; there were a couple of thing in there I hear recur in his playing. But RR's not far off stylewise either, nor any skilled player who understands SS Blues/Rock playing.

Dan, keep the poll running if you want - but please email me with the source, because I want to find that for my collection of it's available!

Man that faux tapping stuff is insane!
gonna guess RR.

If its Jimmy Page I will eat my SD-10 and poo out a 68 les paul complete with marshall stack. I love Pages guitar playing, but his steel playing on zep 3 sounds almost as bad as I do...almost.

whats up with that tapping? how? *shakes head slowly

thanks for the clip regardless Dan...eye opener.

The faux tapping is done either with two bars or with a bar and finger pick. This sounds like a bar and finger pick to me.

It's pretty slick.

Maaan, that's good playing.

But there needs to be a "damfino" button to push on the poll.

I think that Chuck Campbell or Robert Randolph could do it, but Joe Wright is the only player in the list that I've ever heard playing that style.

Buddy Cage would have been my second guess.

I want to change my vote, but I can't. I now think it's Paul Franklin.

I think it's Chuck, but b0b's right, it COULD be Paul if he's really been woodshedding that Sacred Steel feel. I've never heard RR play quite so "shreddy" as that, but I haven't heard him in a couple years.

I love the fact that the 'Nuge is in the running with two votes! How long do we have to wait to find out?

I'm voting based on the description and without actually hearing it first. My vote goes to Chuck Campbell who is one of the most inventive steel guitarists ever. I suspect he's forgotten more creative steel guitar techniques - and then moved on to others - than many of us will ever learn in a lifetime.

His playing seems largely more mellow these days but I've heard him play astounding anything-but-mellow things that one would never imagine could come out of a steel guitar.

Now that I've gushed all that I'll be curious to hear the track and then find out who it actually is.

Chuck Campbell. I almost say RR, but the feel in some places sounds like Chuck more than Robert. Dang, it's some nice playing.
