"Hawaiian Sunset" is the featured tune on Jerry Byrd's web site as of today. It's a simple arrangement but drips of sweetness in tone and styling.
For those of you looking for a nice song to learn to play, this would be a good one.
Google.......will take you there.
Hope you like it!

Hehe, cute tune. Nice touches of contrary motion in the first bridge... classic JB "they'll never get it" playing.

It's played on the C6th. From the octave gliss (strings 2 & 3, second fret, to octave second fret) to the backward slant on frets 15 & 16 was a difficult transition to master.

The modulation, leading into the harmonics, is a great spot in the arrangement.

He was the greatest.

One of the things I like about JB's playing is that he would very sparingly "lay into" a 6th chord (i.e. strum the entire tuning) even though he was using a 6th tuning. For the most part, I still find players who constantly resolve to a 6th chord to be somewhat cheesy and "Waikiki"-sounding.

Real "Cool", Rick...

Love the slant-bar resolutions. Can tell you have studied JB!

who did the accompanyment? Or is that BIAB? Sounds too "live" to me to BIAB, but then the ancient ears are not what they used to be.

Aloha

Thanks y'all ...

First time with a bullet bar in my hand ... well ... in along time.

I ain't gettin' no younger ... so I figure if I start now ... in another 17 yrs ... I just might have somethin' ...

Ionaville was fun to visit and I learned alot there ... but I'm headin' back to Byrdland ...

Oakley ... that's me on my "Just Intonation" tuned acoustic guitar.

I'd tune to the chord ... strum/record the measure(s) ... cut & paste ...

Did about 50 songs like that back in '97 -'98 ... when I ran outta folks to play with.

I tried to learn to play rhythm guitar ... had the guitar ... just lacked the rhythm.
